Pelosi on Clinton's Defeat: "I'm A Victim of Sexism Myself All The Time" Said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) discussing Tuesday morning whether sexism played a significant role in the defeat of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. "Is there sexism? Probably so," said Pelosi. "Is it responsible for the defeat? I really wouldn't have the scientific knowledge, all of the information to know that. But I do think that being a woman has a positive upside in the campaign, probably offset by more sexism. I don't know. Of course there is sexism, we all know that. I mean but it is a given, it is a given."

I didn't really see this post as whiny. I saw it as her answering a question for some reporter. She didn't say anything exciting, imo.

I have no doubt she's experienced sexism. Especially women who are in male dominated professions. Most women have. I remember my jr high algebra teacher telling one of my male classmates, "How can a young man as smart as you allow those two girls out perform you." I was one of "those girls" and my best friend was the other. I was the valedictorian and she was the salutatorian that year. He said this in front of the whole class. He then proceeded to lecture all the males in the class about the importance of doing your best. Whether the females in his class passed or failed did not seem to concern him. I never forget what he said but it did not stop me from succeeding in school.

I wonder what Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, and the rest of the Suffragettes would think about the person who is third in line to be president complaining about sexism? Way to show your true colors there raciccarone. And don't be so hard on her. If she for a moment thought that she could succeed at impeaching Bush, she'd be all over it. And if Nancy loses her seat, I'll eat my hat (as I listen to congress woman Cindy Sheehan get sworn in?) And finally, while walking to the office a couple of saturdays ago, I walked by Georgio Armani and there were all these black suburbans out front. I had to peek. Nancy was trying on some new suits.

I don't like her, but I'm sure that she has had to deal with sexism. She is a woman with a lot of power and it IS a given.

I find the backlash to her comments (from the full story linked above) interesting. This sounds to me like a politician trying to bolster her position by claiming a negative experience. She is going to lose her seat because she campaigned on the "Let's impeach Bush and his cronies" ticket, and now she has taken the impeachment off the table. Way to act like a politician...
