What do you get when you cross Senator Patrick Leahy with rocker Pete Wentz? A very strange combo of endorsements for Barack Obama. Joining a star-studded list that includes Oprah and Scarlett Johansson, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), chairman of the judiciary committee, (a senatorial-equivalent rock star,) announced his endorsement of Obama today.

Next Tuesday, Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz is hosting his own fund-raiser for Obama in his home state of Illinois. With guyliner or without, this rocker (who considers himself both "liberal," and "apolitical,") tossed his support to the candidate. Though according to MTV, Pete considers Obama a fall-back choice:
"To find a candidate that I completely agreed with, I'd have to run myself. And I'm not sure people would be ready for tax-free ice cream and 'Macho Man' Randy Savage as the secretary of state."
Who's the better endorsement?

Christian Dior
This is just the momentum Obama needs, since Chicago Is So Two Years Ago.
1"Vote or Cry"
2Heck yeah, Patrick Leahy!
Vermont represent!
3If we elected an emo president, would his Iraq strategy be to cut and run?
4Most of FOB's fans are too young to vote. I was 22 when I went to one of their shows and I was the oldest person there aside from all the parents!
5I think celebrity endorsements actually hurt candidates. I don't really care who celebrities are going to vote for, but I understand that it is good for people to see people they admire actively involved in the political process. However, I think that if too many celebrities endorse a candidate a lot of middle America starts to think of the candidate as too "Hollyweird".
I think having a political heavy weight back your campaign is great, but sadly, I don't think that many Americans can name most political heavy weights (I myself wish I knew more, too!).
6OMG I am literally laughing out loud at the emo jokes. Love it! I voted for Pete though because he is able to reach a wider variety of people who don't necesarily care to vote.
7Geez, d'you think Hillary's campaign paid these guys to endorse Obama? With supporters like that, he's probably losing votes.
8i think patrick leahy is more respected but sadly pete wentz is more famous for, basicly, silly superficial reasons. chances are, though patrick leahy will be listened to, pete is going to get way more attention with his nasty 'guyliner' and 'hardcore' attitude. i dont watch much mtv, but i dont need to to know that theyre going to be all over this.
9Man, I don't know what to think of Pete backing Obama. That seems like it would hurt him more than it would help, in the eyes of some people, but I don't know. Having some young rocker dude politically back up a candidate who to me, stands out as someone who wants to be an idealist who can revolutionize America MIGHT be crazy enough to pull in votes from younger people.
10I voted Pete, just because I know how hard it is to get young people to vote for the first time and anything may help that group get out and vote.
11I voted Pete.
