Stay Up Late With the President and Jay Leno This Thursday!

This Thursday President Obama will appear on Jay Leno's Tonight Show. Taking his reputation as a night owl to a whole new level, Obama will be the first sitting president to appear on a late-night talk show.

It won't be all laughs though — unless you find the recession particularly comical. Obama plans to chat with Jay about his plan to save the economy.

Carrie Sue, how many talk shows has Obama been on where the audience was stacked in his favor? How many town halls have been filled with people only favorable to his views? Except for an incident involving Obama's campaign staff having some Muslim women move out of camera sight, I don't recall any controversies surrounding Obama audiences. I do however, know of several cases in which people were ejected or arrested at Bush presidential events for wearing opposition t-shirts. One incident cost taxpayers $80-thousand dollars to end a lawsuit.

All politicians campaign every single day. They are always looking towards re-election. It doesn't stop once the campaign is over and they are in office.

I think it's great to go on Leno. Other people will see him who don't watch the regular news shows.

I wonder how many "ordinary Joes" will actually be in the audience. i have seen the kind of security there is when the POTUS is apearing at an event.

I think for an informal chat about the economy, it's not a bad idea. Leno can easily raise 'regular joe' questions and there's an audience that can respond to Obama's answers with applause or boos - it gets to more people in an informal way than a series of town halls could.
