President Bush got back in the speech saddle this week, telling an invitation-only crowd in Canada that he doesn't plan on attacking his successor because Obama deserves his silence.
Apparently content with letting Cheney do the criticizing, Bush said:
There's plenty of critics in the arena, I think it's time for the ex-president to tap dance off the stage and let the current president have a go at solving the world's problems. If he wants my help and I agree with him, I'll give it.
Bush said that Obama can "pick up the phone and call" if he wants Bush's advice. Though I doubt Bush is waiting by his phone. Instead, he will be writing a book about the 12 toughest decisions he made as president.

That purposed book would be an interesting read
1I'd definitely buy that book.
2The book would definitely be interesting! And I respect Bush for respecting Obama enough to stfu.
3We all deserve Bush's silence.
4Next up would be Cheney's silence.
5I think we should get back to the days of old when it wasn't cool for a former POTUS or Vice POTUS to criticize a sitting POTUS. Just not very presidential in my opinion. I know there had to have been a time when President's did that. Like Bush said, if he needs advice he'll give it but until then he's going to just stfu. Go Bush.
6I think it'll be an interesting book. Bush is going to stfu... I think it's respectable.
7I love that we've all started using stfu. We should all publish our public figure STFU list. (Angie and Jen are on mine)
and I agree with Em, will Cheney be gracing us with his silence any time soon?
8(Which I guess means I've added Cheney to my STFU list!)
9I really don't dig the negative tip you placed on this.
10"Apparently content with letting Cheney do the criticizing" and "Though I doubt Bush is waiting by his phone"?!
Ew.
Ha! I was going to ask what 'STFU' meant... and I just looked it up on the internets instead.
Cheney is most definitely on my STFU list!
I like this:
11If he wants my help and I agree with him, I'll give it.
IMO I think it is high time that Mr. Obama calls Bush and Cheney for advice, all things considered.
He obviously needs a whole lot of HELP since he isnt getting any good advice from his own miserably inexperienced team.
12Really? Obama should call and ask for advice from people who presided over taking a budget surplus of $128 billion and turning it into a budget deficit of $1.3 trillion?
13Yep he should. who ran Congress for the past 2 years steph?
14"National debt hits record $11 trillion" under Obama, the man who was going to cut the debt...?
15It didn't go from surplus to outrageous deficit in just the last two years.
16Bush had a deficit of 413-Billion by 2004, though he predicted that by then he would have built the surplus to $387 billion.
Obama's been in office for 58 days. While conservatives like to claim that Obama's a miracle worker, the rest of us understand fixing the miserable mess left behind will take a little more time.
This obama group rode into town a little over a month ago and they're running us right into bankrupty.
17I think he is one of the most fascinating (not in a good way) people of our lifetime, can't wait to read what he has to say in his book.
18Slightly off the subject, I just think it's so interesting how conservatives that the (left) public dispises such as W. Bush, Limbugh, Scollia have the most adoring friendships with their Liberal associates. I think what it says for them is that politics is just politics and they leave it at the door when they leave.
19I certainly think time will tell...
20I think I undersgtand your point hypno. In other words, we can all be friends and agree to disagree? If that's what you mean, I agree!
