Vanity Fair won't be printing its annual green issue this year, reasoning that environmental concerns are already ingrained in everyday news reporting. Condé Nast says the magazine will spread its coverage of the environment over the entire year. The company also admits that it wants to focus its attention on the economic crisis.

Not limiting green topics to a dedicated issue might signal a coup for environmental activists — their concerns are now taken seriously all year and treated like legitimate news.
Then again, the dedicated issues offered an opportunity for unique commentary and increased awareness. And recent surveys show that the public's sense of urgency surrounding global warming is melting away.
Perhaps forgoing the "green" issue suggests that it wasn't spawned by a passion for the environment, but rather by a desire to cover the "it" crisis. Do you think Vanity Fair is making the right move?

Prada
They are probably just cutting back because of the economy. The regular issues sales have been down, so i can't imagine that people will rush out to buy a "green" edition of Vanity Fair.
1I have never even read Vanity Fair.
but is this really news? is what i want to know?
2Oh the "green" edition of VF .... how to be 'green' by spending $3K on a bamboo table or something else ridiculous.
I get the enviornment is important but I'm tired of the whoel green = trendy.
3I didn't know VF had green issue.
Moving on.
4I think this can be considered news (though personally, I'd give Italy its own post and link this...). That comprehensive environmental reports no longer are limited to one special issue but are reported as needed is an important step. It means no more hideous green covers too!
5I was just thinking how the "go green" fad has been waning. One week every single magazine I got in the mail had something about it on the cover, and now it's not such a hot topic.
6i'm surprised that so many people didn't realize that VF had a green issue. it may have been the one issue that i made a point to buy from the newsstand rather than hope that i got my comp copy since there were always really interesting stories in different perspectives about being green and being mindful of the environment. i'm not sure that it was the best choice to do - but you can't fault them for their rationale i suppose. everyone talks about green and environmentally friendly things ALL the time so to focus an issue maybe isn't as unique - although it's the right time to really do it. i wonder what the backlash on this one will be.
7Yes, they're not abandoning environmental advocacy. They've made the decision to cover it on a case by case basis annually rather than focus on one issue. I have no problem with that. If Vanity Fair wants to pull back a little and embrace their roots a little while still showing advocacy for a number of issues not just the environment I say whoopti freakin doo, go for it.
8Can't stand VF and I make sure to never buy any mag that is having it's green issue. I'm not interested in preachy celebs who fly everywhere telling me to go green
9Well, people are losing interest in green topics because the economy is so black. But because the economy is so awful, people are no longer opting for big SUVs, and also there are thousands of McMansions that are not being constructed due to the housing crisis. So I guess the economy is impacting the global warming issues positively, and reducing our carbon footprints.
10the economy is way bigger than the environment anyway, right now that is.
11I'm not sure people are losing interest in green topics so much as they've been absorbed into the main stream. Magazines like Good Housekeeping & Family Circle include green tips in with everything else, shopping tips encourage people to buy local produce and tell which organic products are the best buys, I see lists of recycling tips everywhere.
12When people (loose interest) in something as important as environmental sustainability I really don't think they loose interest. IMO they loose focus but their understanding of the importance of the issue is still very much in tact. Even for those whose minds are clouded with political and policy dissagreements. People react to things around them when they are in an accute state of mind for them (the economy) that's just human nature so when it comes to environmental advocacy people haven't forgot people are just tending to other priorities in their lives.
13While i was unfamiliar with their green issue I have to say i am not disappointed. Every magazine i open up seems to have so many articles about being green and where to eat, what to eat, what clothes to buy what shoes to buy. it's all great information and should make us more environmentally conscious but sometimes when i raed magazines i just want to be in my own world!
14Thats true Lemamike...everytime I read Glamour or Elle there is always something in there about the enviroment.
15I dont think this issue will be missed much.
I don't like this movie. It seems that when the environment was the hip concern, every magazine was on board. Now the economy is the "it" focus (and rightly so), but it doesn't mean we should forget about the other issues.
16Thank you very much for sharing this green issue, I am happy to read this post and I think now a day we should try to prevent environment pollution.
