My Best Friend Betrayed Me Over a Boy

Dear Sugar
My ex-boyfriend and I dated for more than one year. I won't say that it was a smooth relationship, because we've had our ups and downs, but I really thought we had something special.

However, in the last few months, we had a really tough go of things and ultimately, we broke up. I have recently come to understand during those troubled months that my ex was seeing my best friend.

At first, I was too surprised to react, and my friend, apologized. I didn't want to throw away our ten year friendship over a guy, but the more I think about it, who would do that to their best friend? Now, I am very angry.

Isn't it I think an unwritten rule that you don't date your best friend's boyfriend?

It's been about six months since I've been broken up with my ex. I've learned that they 'officially' began dating the week after we ended things and I haven't spoken to him since...but I am still in contact with her.

I feel very betrayed. I know that I should be happy for her that she's found someone, but I am conflicted about it because she was the "other woman" who caused my own break up.

Is it too late or should I tell her how I feel? Unfortunately, I just can't stand them together. I love them both in my heart, and I wish both of them happiness. But c'mon, is anyone this mature? Angry Adelade

Dear Angry Adelade
Yes, you should talk to your friend and tell her all of these things you've written. Sit her down in person and say that you love her and want her to be happy, but how could she so cold-heartedly betray you?

She's broken every girl code ever written with her disloyalty to you. It's entirely up to you whether or not you think she should suffer consequences, but it's understandable why you wouldn't want to be friends with her any longer.

Truthfully, she's been expecting this. I am sure she cares for you deeply, but she knew her day of reckoning would come. And she still made her choice to be with him. She didn't even have the decency to tell you about it from the get go. I retract my statement about her loving you -- sounds more like this girl only loves herself.
