We all have our moments, and sometimes the little things can set our mood into a tailspin. Maybe somebody accidentally threw away your bagged lunch at work, or your neighborhood coffee shop ran out of cream, and boom — you're instantly in a bad mood. Stereotypically speaking, women are thought of as the moody ones, but men can be moody too, and there's actually a name for it — irritable male syndrome. It's much less severe than depression or bipolar disorder, but the same roller coaster of emotions apply. One minute he's happy and loving life, and the next, he's sulking and not wanting to talk. This change in mood can be triggered by hormonal fluctuations (just like us!) or stress. To find out more about this condition and to learn what you can do to help, check out the video below from The Today Show.

Do you know any men that suffer from irritable male syndrome?

Gucci
i used to just ignore my moody hubby and my moody teen, but i have had enough!! i come right out and say, do you need to leave for awhile and regroup????why should i have to suffer, GET IT TOGETHER MEN!!!man, i think i am getting old, i take no crap anymore!
1it's probably not bad enough to warrant a name...actually it's definitely not serious enough in my case...but my boyfriend, like every couple months or so, just gets all moody and quiet and i can't win with him....the two times i can remember it happening since we started dating were both on a sunday and so i can only imagine it might have been hangover induced, but he just gets distant and he's not nearly as loving as normal (like wont hold my hand in the car or something) and makes sarcastic comments and just seems meaner...it's the weirdest thing...it has happened twice and lasts less than a day....so so strange...i don't enjoy it!
2This is interesting although sometimes I think there could be bigger issues that just male moodiness just like with women...
3This is just weird...first I've heard of this one. Usually guys are moody for specific reasons...but then again...my older brother can be a little spoiled princess, soo....
4I wouldn't say mine has irritable male syndrome, but guys get very weird sometimes. I mean, my guys mood changes all the time. He's either very loving, or very distant. He's either happy with me, or complaining. It's annoying.
5Im nonchalant alot of the time so im likely to call someone a whiny little $hit.
6"Irritable male syndrome"? So, why don't men get the negative labels women do? They get an official sounding name for their mood swings.
7I can't deal with an overly moody man.
I would dump his irritable butt =]
8So can we finally start accusing men of IMSing when they are acting like a-holes? And don't forget to roll your eyes at them and use your best get-over-it voice!
9Holy crap, after 4 years, I'd had enough... I didn't need someone moodier than me. His "funks" took a toll on our relationship
10Wow! You guys sound like my wife did before I took the bull by the horns and changed. For me it was very frustrating trying to trying to break out of the moods. I read every book and listened to an endless amount of self -help tapes. What I realized was that I suffered from anxiety and depression which is admiting defeat for any man. My journey has taken me to a spiritual and cognitive balance. None of this could have happened until I seeked help and realized how damaging and demoralizing this was to my family. I realized a real man doesn't just grin and bear it, he has to gather the proper tools to fight this battle. And trust me it is hell for everyone.
