Military Jet Crashes in San Diego Neighborhood A military jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in San Diego, CA, on Monday as it tried to land at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The pilot ejected before the jet, an F/A-18, went down two miles from the airfield. The pilot — the only occupant of the two-seat jet — was taken to a hospital after safely ejecting.

Sad that this happened. Jet crash zones are in the weirdest places. When I was stationed in VA, a major shopping center was their crash zone. Kind of made me not want to hang out at that particular mall.

This happened on my gramma's street! I live in Nashville and heard about it before my mom, who lives in San Diego with the rest of my family (I was born and raised in SD, only recently moved to TN). One of my coworkers told me to go to CNN.com because he just read that a F-18 crashed in a neighborhood near Miramar. I read the article and recognized one of the street names. I immediately called my mom, who had no idea this had happened, and asked her to call my gramma. They are fine. It turns out the crash happened 6-7 houses down the street from them. Most of the people in the neighborhood were instructed to stay indoors and away from the smoke and jet fuel. Crazy!In credit to CitizenSugar, it looks like the blip was posted before the rest of the details had been confirmed; there were two other people still missing at the time.

Okay, I appreciate that the article here was changed to correctly reflect the Marine base where the plane was headed, but I still say leaving out that the occupants of the home died is burying the lead.

It looks like something was deleted when you posted this story. For one thing, that should read "Marine Corps Air Station Miramar," otherwise it doesn't make sense. It would be like saying "29-year old tv star announced she's expecting a baby today with her husband, 30 year old director." You need a name in there or it's nonsensical. Second, um, you just kind of skipped over the part where the two people in the house died!

A military jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in San Diego, California, on Monday as it tried to land at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, killing two people in a home, authorities said. Both victims were in one of two houses destroyed by the crash and ensuing fire, and two others believed to be in that house were missing, officials said. The pilot of the F/A-18 Hornet ejected safely and was taken to a hospital, the Marine Corps said in a news release. The pilot, whose name was not released, was the only occupant of the two-seat aircraft, the Marine Corps said.
