Should Celebrity Sex Dolls Be Illegal?

According to reports, barely legal Miley Cyrus plans to sue over the apparently popular "Finally Miley" sex doll. While the makers don't use an image of the real Miley on the box, it's obvious they're co-opting the ex-Disney star's image to sell sex toys. Miley's not the only star with sex-doll appeal. Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé have all had to deal with similar products, and not all of them have been successful in stopping sales. Do you think these dolls should be forbidden, or does it come with the price of fame?

While freedom of speech is important, this has nothing to do with saying something. I think this is an invasion of privacy. If someone made a sex doll of me, I would be mortified. I don't care if they're public figures, they still have a right to some privacy and dignity.

I think the Miley one is especially creepy since she's barely 18 and associated with a kid's show. Pervy to the max.

okay i agree that this is creepy, but my general rule of thumb is that if it's not hurting anyone it shouldn't be illegal. I'd bet that most off these are just gag gifts (no pun intended) anyway.

Free speech does not include using a celebrity's likeness and name without their permission and without royalties being paid to them. If they don't want a sex doll made based on their image, they should legally be able to stop production. If they don't mind and would like the extra income, they should be entitled to royalties just like if it was just an action figure doll.

I'm on the fence, I do think there's a difference though between using a celebrity look alike and creating a product in their image-- basically the selling point is the celebrity (especially when using their name) or the "brand" that they have created for themselves and without their endorsement I could see it as infringing on their rights. But I think if the dolls were only visually similar and not marketed in a way that blatantly links them to the celebrity that makers have the right to create their product.

Illegal? Not at all. They should just be treated like any other product that uses a celebrity's likeness to sell their products. Which means if the celebrity didn't approve it / is getting money for it, they'll probably sue the company. I do feel bad for Miley Cyrus though, because at her age it must be even more horrifying of having to deal with something like this - no matter how much of a settlement she'll get.

Also, if you bought the Miley Cyrus one, you're pretty much lost to the human race. But that's your prerogative.

It's level 1000 pervey, but it's freedom of speech. As a celebrity, they are making themselves a public figure. This kind of free speech is highly protected, constitutionally.
