Michelle Obama volunteered at Miriam's Kitchen, a nonprofit that provides case management, housing support, and meals to homeless people in DC. Yesterday's meal was donated by the White House in a new effort to highlight the work of local nonprofits. The first lady urged Americans to donate food and, if that's out of reach, time.

i saw a clip of this and she was asking them "risotto?" and one guy said "whats that?" and she said something Like "its just rice" and it made me smile.
1Nicely done CG,
2Where's the first grandma? I have visions of her puttering around the White House in a big sweater by herself waiting for the girls to come home...
I will be the first to admit I did not like this woman at all during her husband's campaign, I actually liked her less than her husband, but the more I see of her the more I'm warming up to her.
3Good for her. At least she's trying to raise awareness for the growing need to support your local food banks.
I am really impressed with her as first lady!
4Caption that:
Michelle: "Hey!"
Dude surprised by First Lady: "HEY!"
Michelle scoop of risotto at the ready then stands there while dude in line proceeds to tell her who she is over and over again.
5Such a great first lady! I'm German and we really love the Obamas over here
6I was thinking the same thing wackdoodle - "Hey, hey hey"
7Good for her doing a good deed
8Heey! Love her

food and time should be reversed?
10Tidal...I interpreted it as meaning if you can't donate food, donate time...meaning people who can't afford to donate food b/c of the recession, so they'd volunteer instead.
11Glad she highlighted this.
12She is really becoming America's sweetheart.
13Can I nominate her for smiliest first lady?
14Kim, she's growing on me too. As much as I dislike her politics, I love watching her fashion. I also like watching her with the girls, they're a lovely family.
15I think this is a really positive thing. It is great they donated food and time and brought attention to the strong need for volunteering during this challenging time.
I also think it was a nice surprise for people who were probably feeling pretty defeated when they were waking into the shelter. Sometimes one act of kindness can go a long way.
16This woman is an angel.
17This right here is why I wish my husband and I were independently wealthy. I would LOVE to be able to volunteer my time every single day. I'm incredibly jealous of people that have this kind of time to devote to helping others. And I am incredibly impressed that the First Lady would do this.

food and time should be reversed?
Many programs like this are overwhelmed with those wanting to volunteer time but are not getting donations, monetary or otherwise, like they use to. At least this is what is happening in my area.
Good for the first lady. She always looks so happy.
19Woah, woah, woah..yes, it's great that she is serving food to the homeless but why does the homeless man have a cell phone?! And where did he get the money for this?!
20Mrs Prez servin food to a homeless guy that has a cell phone that takes pictures?
