Meghan McCain has announced plans to publish a children's book about her dad, just in time for Father's Day. The book will be out in September.
In a story about patriotism and tenacity, the 23-year-old daughter of a maverick follows Daddy John's life as a Navy brat, through five-and-a-half years as a POW in Vietnam, all the way to the Republican convention where he will be nominated for president.
Meghan can now add author to a resume that already includes blogger; She keeps an online diary of her experience on the campaign trail at McCain Blogette.
Do you think this biography-turned-children's book is a blatant campaign public relations tactic, or a sweet Father's Day gift that all of American's children can cherish? Would you read McCain's biography to your children as a bedtime story?

Everyone and their grandma puts out a book...
1this is bizarre. a children's book about john mccain's life? sounds uplifting.
"Long long ago, even before your mommy and daddy were born, way back when everything was in black and white, a soldier was held in a dark, empty cell for five years."
i wish i had kids so i could buy this for them!! and give them nightmares!!
2Buy them that and Goodnight Bush, they'll sleep like babies.
3There is nothing like a bit of torture tales to tuck you in!
4Well, if the book's anything like her blog--all photos and iTunes playlists--then it'll definitely be on the soporific side...
5It could be cute. Part of the proceeds go to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, so that's definitely a good thing. And I would hope its going to be sophomoric; it's for children!
On a side note, her the sophomoric nature of her blog is intentional; it's purposefully not political or philosophical.
6On another side note, there is also a Barack Obama children's book out there. I saw a blurb about it in the paper yesterday.
7Wow, I read em's comment waaaay too quickly!
And I like her blog! It's not exactly rocket science, but it's cute. To each his own, though.
8Whats the BO book about?
9Good for her. I think it's great when people want to write (positive) books about their parents it shows they love and respect them. I'd love to write a book about my Dad, he's awesome.
I'd buy it I'm sure, more as a "reference" book for the children, it certainly wouldn't be a bedtime story type book. But we have alot of historical books geared toward children. It's good to have books like that for children to be able to read at their level and learn about various subjects.
10wow, cuz i can't wait to read about how McCain was tortured as a bedtime story for my niece! Night, night honey! Don't let the VietCong bite!
11From my understanding, it's biographical. It's called "Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope."
12Ahhh i see.
13*Sexist Alert*
It is probabl just me, but I don't like that style of dress. Not flattering at all.
*End Sexist Alert*
14I don't think thats sexist... but between the heels comment and now you saying you don't like "the style" of the dress because its not "flattering"....
I'm starting to wonder about you...
15I don't think that's a very flattering picture of her, either. I can't tell if its the dress or the way she's standing or what. But then again, we all know Citizen and Liberty get their pics from unflatteringpics.com.
I kid, I kid.
16I love checking to see if these domains we throw around are available.
And fyi, this one is available, for only $3.99!
17There's also a really cute part about John McCain voting for quorum on Senate resolution bill 437. Very inspiring.
18This is kind of off topic but somewhat related... You know what irks me, is people now who release cookbooks. What kind of cooking training does that Katie Lee Joel person have? Or Jessica Seinfeld?
Why do these people think they can cook?
Its like just anyone can release a cookbook now... it drives me nuts.
19You know what irks me, whne my wife doesn't cook for me. I mean, Doesn't she know her place is in the kitchen (after she's worked 8 hours, of course)?
20It would be awesome if it was Pop Up Book. turn to the vietnam chapter and Boi-oi-oi-oing up pops McCain eating a bug, later on in the story you turn to the campaign page and Boi-oi-oi-oing theres mccain getting a prostate exam to prove he is healthy!
21"It is probabl just me, but I don't like that style of dress. Not flattering at all."
It's not just you, UD. Satin is *very* hard to wear...weird crinkles everywhere, weird lumps showing up that don't exist...just odd.
cabaker--you should release a cookbook. I'd buy it.
22Satin is the hardest fabric to wear, hands down(I don't wear it and I'm pretty skinny). And the cut isn't helping either.
But I get what you're saying Ca, my mother in (not) law bought the Seinfeld one and it didn't come out very good either. It feels like everyone is writing books though, like EVERYONE.
23em I actually photograph my food with idea of making a cookbook one day, but more like a family one, not one to be published....
but who knows! maybe I'll become who I hate!
24I love her M and I think her dress is fine.
25Cab, I don't think that Katie has any professional training as a chef, but I think that she has basically based her life around food/cooking. But, yeah, SO many people release cookbooks! WTF?!
Dave, you are right- that dress IS unflattering.
26"Part of the proceeds go to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, so that's definitely a good thing."
I heard that the publisher was going to donate proceeds, but not the author (yet). I didn't research it too much, so I could be wrong.
27I had heard the publisher, too. I didn't say it was the author.
28She has broad shoulders, and the neckline emphasises the horizontal, IMO. I v-neck would probably be more flattering for her purportions. (IMO)
29The McCains are big on giving, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if Meghan is giving some of her earnings, as well.
30And John McCain gives his book royalties to charity.
31I have to admit the poor dress choice was the first thing I thought when I saw this. And the second was the terrifying topic for a kid's book.
32And of course it's a PR campaign thing.
undave, true or false: you cook at least 50% of your family's meals.
33That is true janneth, and I actually cook more than 75% of our meals. Partly because I'm a better cook, but also because I have a more flexible schedule, so I can be home to cook.
34not to be rude, but she seriously looks a porn star, i just cant remember which one.
