McCain Adviser Gramm Quits After 'Whiners' Remarks
Former Texas Sen. Phil Gramm resigned Friday from his role as GOP presidential candidate John McCain's campaign co-chairman, hoping to quiet the uproar that followed his comments that the United States had become a "nation of whiners" whose constant complaints about the US economy show they are in a "mental recession." Gramm said, "it is clear to me that Democrats want to attack me rather than debate Senator McCain on important economic issues facing the country. . .That kind of distraction hurts . . . the country."

Maybe, just maybe these people don't think we are in a recession because they have more money that us whining normal folks can fathom. Perhaps they should be dropped down to the budget that we live off of, and see how they would feel about the economy then.

Oh, how shocking. I always wonder in situations like this is it was all a secret plan. If he wanted to quit anyways, so he said something sketchy so McCain could denounce him and ask him to step down. Probably not true, but I wonder.

I don't think the comment was that well received by McCain's supporters, but I agree that this resignation was ill timed, if this truly was the reason for him leaving.

His resignation seems odd to me - I was under the impression that whatever furor his remark caused had died down, and that the remark was well-received by McCain supporters.
