Man Arrested For Assaulting Woman During Monopoly Game

We have several rubrics here at TrèsSugar that this news story could have fit under. Stranger Than Fiction. Très Bizarre. And then there's the less-oft-used Dumbass of the Day. The following story is a rarity — I will file it under all of the above.

A 54-year-old Michigan man was playing Monopoly Saturday night with a female friend. He tried to buy Park Place and Boardwalk from her, but she wasn't budging. So what did the guy do? He hit her in the head and broke her glasses. Needless to say, he was subsequently arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

May I add another charge? Terminal stupidity.

Wow. I mean, I know firsthand MONOPOLY can get intense but, that's just ridiculous! I feel bad for the lady and that guy needs serious anger management lessons.

As sad as this story is it has put me in the mood to play Monopoly. I'm gonna go down to It's Your Move and buy some board games. I remember when I was little we use to have Monopoly games that would go from Friday night to Sunday afternoon.

She must've been in the Purple Baltic/Mediterranean block. The place is pretty slummy, and the area's been spilling into the Blue Park Place/Boardwalk block for years. Especially these days since funding was slashed for Community Chest by the Governor and the republican minority because they didn't want to raise Luxury Taxes. And, unfortunately, while he was sent directly to jail, because of the cuts made by the governor, he probably won't serve the entire three turn sentence. Yeah, things are tough. Perhaps he didn't take the best route in winning at Monopoly. Best method I've found was to collude with other players to eliminate common competitors. Market deregulation and the weakening of anti-trust laws in favor of a purely free-market system has made this possible when playing Monopoly (i.e. there's no rule against it, to my knowledge. But if there is, you could always hire a lobbying firm to influence Congress to change the rules). And to prevent turning it into an Oligopoly, you can always either consolidate (which is boring) or enact a hostile takeover of those you've colluded with once the original competition is taken. But the game gets way more complicated then, and it becomes way more political. The way I play Monopoly, it's probably good that I'm no longer interested in pursuing an MBA.

Why was this woman even friends with him ? I swear I cringe every time I see a woman enabling a man to behave like a complete asshole. FTR, I am NOT victim blaming. At the same time, we need to respect ourselves enough to walk away from violent people, regardless of what they may think.
