Net worth does not equal income. It includes assets like retirement, any homes, other property etc. I'm not sure if it includes companies.

So to give away 5% not of your income, but your total fortune, is a bigger deal than it sounds.

I mean, she's not lacking for anything, but she certainly gives a lot away. And she doesn't just give it away, but takes personal interest in a lot of the projects.

She doesn't allow white economically disadvantaged girls to attend her posh school in Africa, she didn't support the more qualified candidate, my girl Hillary and she seems to only want to help women of color, or any person as long as they're not white. She's a fraud really, a phony....all the women who made her who she is and loved her and with time she has shown her true colors. She is prejudice against all white people....regardless of your economic situation, how long you've actually been in this country (I don't think the Irish ever had slaves) or what kind of person you are. She should get credit for helping people who need/deserve it. And who cares what her personal/ religious beliefs are?! She's a good person who does good things with the things she's been given.

Yahoo loves to post stories about troubled liberals. I'm not saying Oprah isn't a giving person, but this story has one purpose to cover Oprah not allowing Sarah Palin on being allowed on her program. Oprah is in trouble with her core audience white 30-50+ women.

How much of that American money was given to Americans?? I'll bet not a whole helluva lot. She may have money but her show is based on the same concept of Seinfeld, a show about nothing. I'm not an Oprah lover, but I am surely not the hater several posters in here are. If she gave $50M+ of her income last year, which was reported to be somewhere around $250M, that would mean she donated more like 20% of her gross income. Doesn't sound paltry to me.

As for her only doing things for non-whites, have you seen her staff of several hundred? First off, there are many who are white, and quite a high number of women. And, anyone who claims that she does nothing for whites, where is the proof? Speak from a position of knowledge, not assumption. Most of the deeds she does on an ongoing basis aren't going to be picked up by the media.

Politically, she has, for the very first time, come out in support of a Presidential candidate. However, that has not been a subject on her daytime talk show, nor does she intend it to become one. Also, she has admitted to voting across political parties in years past. The only way this whole Gov. Palin mess should have any teeth is if she invited Obama or Biden onto the show and refused to allow the other party the same exposure and opportunity. If her core audience runs away for this, so be it. I hope she stands her ground on this one.

As for overstepping ones boundaries in the political arena, I wasn't aware there was a crime in voicing support for a particular candidate. Why is she not able to do so when so many other well-known celebrities have done virtually the same things for years and years? And, she is a U.S. Citizen and has that right. At over 50yrs old, I'm sure she has simply decided to stop caring so much about what the hell everybody else thinks and is starting to do more of what she wants. More power to her.

Oprah may the most giving celebrity but she is the most ANNOYING celebrity. When she supported Barack Obama she went down on my list. I am anxious for the day when her show is cancelled. But I must say, I do commend her generosity to the general public. Unfortunately, we have to hear about all her generosoties from her. I think a lot of her generosity is for the cameras. Also, the fact she will not interview the republican party until after the election is a travesty. Just more liberal bias in the media.

Well atleast she gives, that's my point...but.....Am I a saint if I give a homeless person $20 if my net worth was $110? Same damn thing! Everyone calls these rich people saints when they give what is equivalent to a quarter to these foundations or causes. Why does someone need billions of dollars to begin with. As a first time member I'll just state some missing facts. Oprah had an opportunity to have a balanced show when she had Obama on. Is said publicly said she would not have any others. As an important national figure with a powerful TV show I felt she should have been balanced in her approach. She has shown time and time again where her true beliefs lie. Of course she has white staff by the hundreds and never is perceived a slave owner. What would the world think if a high powered white woman had hundreds of black staff? She gives a lot of money to very good causes (if you look up the causes you will find most of them black but not all). She is smart and has been a beacon of hope to many just not someone I would ever waste my time watching. When she made her political statement by excluding anyone but her "guy" I made the choice not to listen, read, watch or subscribe to anything Oprah. For those who think this woman has a golden heart for the world...she does not.

I'm sure Oprah gives more than you so you need to calm down.

Oprahs only goal is to make another "billion" dollars and as a percentage gives less than I do.

She had Obama on BEFORE he threw his hat in the ring - I know I watched the show.

When she made the decision to endorse Obama she said (a year ago) that she wasn't going to use her show for political gain for either side.

Since that endorsement -- no political/presidential candidate has been on her show.

Trust me lady -- this will not break Oprah - she is a media power house and if she were to retire tomorrow -- she'd do just fine - with or without you.
