I'm 23 and I am looking for a new hobby. I live in the East Village of NYC and I'm very independent. I work at a stressful job, so when I get home, I like to have a glass of wine and curl up with a good book. My problem is that I feel like I'm becoming a bit of a recluse since all I do is stay at home and read in my downtime. I need to socialize a little more. Do you know of anything out there for me that's calming and creative where I can work alone or in a group? Am I asking for the impossible? Mellow Maxine
Dear Mello Maxine
I've got just the answer for you! How about taking an after work knitting class called Booze and Yarn. This social club is free of charge, the wine flows like water and the crowd is made up of funky, mellow and cool East Villagers. It's founder, a friendly 25 year old Native New Yorker by the name of Corinna sets a very welcoming tone for the classes. She'll teach anyone from beginners to experts and all you've got to do is keep refilling her wine glass for her! Her students praise her attention to detail (which you'll really appreciate since you'll most likely be buzzed). You can choose to knit anything you like (most beginners start with a scarf using #9 needles, which you can purchase there). Who knew this old past time would become so much fun again?
