Killings Turn Focus on San Francisco Sanctuary Law
Authorities say Edwin Ramos to unloaded an AK-47 assault weapon on a man and his two sons, killing them. The deaths immediately drew public outrage, which intensified when authorities revealed that Ramos, 21, is an illegal immigrant who managed to avoid deportation despite previous brushes with the law. The case has put San Francisco's liberal politics to the test, setting off a debate over its sanctuary law that shields undocumented immigrants from deportation.

simply put, any felon or illegal alien can not have any firearm legaly. beyond that in the USA any burst or full auto weapons are highly restricted & almost impossible to own. historicaly most firearm laws are useless in any part of the world & is usually used to suppress the public by the government. Nazi's enacted many gun laws before rounding up th Jews & other unwanted groups. laws only effect people who obey them. in any case this illegal should have been simply not in the USA and his choice of weapon should not be an issue. in my part of the woods illegals tend to throw rocks at fast moving vehicles which kill the occupants or simply beat people to death with bare hands. the US local & federal agenencies once again fail its citizens.

I don't understand how stricter gun laws would've helped keep an illegal gun out of Ramos's hand. What would've helped is for SF to follow the laws of the United States.

That was my entire point of asking if he obtained it legally, which you said didn't matter to your point. But, it obviously does.

Stricter gun laws might have kept this illegal alien from being able to get the gun. An unarmed illegal alien isn't as big a threat as an armed one.

Yeah, I get that Steph, my last message was to gitsie. My point was that having stricter gun control laws wouldn't have prevented this. I don't see how those points are contradictory.

Except my point was that any nut in this country can be driving around with an AK-47 - legal or not. They're too easy to get.

Gitsie, you're not understanding my point. The entire point in asking if he got it legally was that he probably didn't, thus gun laws don't really have much to do with this.

I was wondering about the picture too so went back to Townhall to check. It's poor placement, the picture is former Indian cricketer and lawmaker Navjot Singh Sidhu - has nothing to do with San Fran story.

Who is that guy in turban? I think gun laws have a lot to do with this case. The fact that he was convicted of a felony twice and he is undocumented. How did he get a gun? It is pretty messed up if he was able to get it legally.

I find it frustrating that this guy has been given a pass twice. Can't we make a compromise to check on the status of the people who commit crimes while they are here?

Sorry, I was just saying not to bother checking on my account, that the legality of the weapon didn't ease my feelings. There are too many guns easily obtained in this country, and too many skeevy people getting them. Wasn't feeling attacked, wasn't attacking.

No, I would hope you would find it worse if he obtained the weapon legally. I was just pointing out the fact that gun laws don't really have much to do with this case.

Oh, God. The article goes on to state that Ramos is also believed to be a member of the ultraviolent MS13 gang, has been convicted of felonies twice already, and has been known for years to be undocumented. I can kinda-sorta-sometimes accept the idea of sanctuary cities (though never agreeing with it), but this guy isn't an undocumented nice family guy here working to support his family and bothering no one. He's a twice-convicted felon. What a tragedy. It's too bad the "sanctuary city" laws helped to protect this guy at the expense of three innocent lives.

This is an unfortunate byproduct of the sanctuary city status. Both the good and bad illegals flock to those cities. Since this guy has been arrested multiple times in SF, I would put the blame squarely on the political leadership. I hope they have deep pockets.

I feel more outrage over how stupid it is that anyone, including an illegal immigrant with prior legal brushes, can get an AK-47.
