What's a shame is that some people on this site are awful quick to judge other people's lifestyle choices while at the same time immediately attacking anyone who (in their mind) even remotely questions their own...

It's a shame that, in spite of the judges ruling, the prom is not being re-instated. Under the circumstances I am not quite sure what the point of the judges ruling is, unless it will help in the future. Aside from that, if I had the opportunity to go to a prom with a girlfriend I would like us both to wear beautiful dresses but that's personal rather than suggesting what others should do.

Being gay isn't a "fad". Sure, woman will hook up with other women for attention but that's such a minority. Even if Constance was participating in a "fad", I think it's a little more important to focus on the fact that such heinous prejudices exist in America. Bravo to her for coming out and being so strong despite this ludicrous homophobia. We have such a long way to go in terms of tolerance in this country and it makes me sad.

^^ Much less in Mississippi. Do you have any idea what her area of Mississippi is like? It's in the Delta, where there are tons of poor black kids with no access to schools, who will never learn to read or even leave their town in their lifetime. It's about 30 minutes from the James Merideth incident, where Southerners rioted to keep blacks out of the University of Mississippi. This is the place where the KKK showed up to a football game a few months ago. When I think about her courage to have come out in high school, in one of the most ignorant parts of Mississippi, I admire the frak out of her.

Calling someone homophobic is name calling. And its not prejudice either that you claim I am being. The opinion is that i see MANY women pretending to be gay when they are truly not. I never once said I dont like gay people or think they shouldn't be allowed to go to prom.

You can say you aren't but your opinion speaks for itself. It's just one of those things more obvious to others than yourself. If you grew up gay, you'd know how terrifying it is, especially in Mississippi. Coming out of the closet is something you do to save yourself, not to get attention.

No SKG thats not true. I am 100% not homophobic or prejudiced. But it seems to me a lot of people, esp. women are playing the gay card for attention.

My wife's from Mississippi. Her birth cert has her listed as white. Yeah, I can see what SKG sez as happening. And what's the deal anyway? So they're lesbian? It's a dance. Does she have to wear a dress at school because she's a girl? Jeez! Bridge it and get over it! Sweat out the important stuff like quality of education and treating others as you'd want to be treated.
