A Journey Through Halitosis

Dear Sugar
I am living in another country right now where the cuisine is very different from the states. The flavors here are so strong and because of it, I feel like my breath always stinks! It's disgusting to me because I have good hygiene. Do you know of a pill I could take, or something I could suck on, brush with or gargle that could help? Thanks. Fresh Breath

Dear Fresh Breath
This is actually a pretty common problem so don't freak out - and yes - it's the curable type of halitosis. Lots of times, even people who eat organically suffer from an odor. The foods you choose to eat also come out in your sweat, so the problem isn't entirely just in your bad breath. Even if you'd like to continue eating this type of food, you can attack the problem orally. Try an oral rinse such as: Pro Fresh, Listerine or Eliminator Mouthwash (available online). The key is to look for products that are alcohol free and that contain; zinc, chlorine dioxide or sodium chlorite. You don't need to take a pill; just make sure to brush regularly (including your tongue), floss, drink plenty of water and use mouthwash. Avoid smoking and coffee for a little while too and you'll be fine.
