Sarah Palin Biographer Immerses Himself in House Next Door

Fame. I bet Sarah Palin never imagined an inquisitive journalist moving in next door would prove she's arrived. Author Joe McGinniss insists he's not there to stalk her — not even observe her — but to spend the Summer in Wasilla talking to the people who know her best. Besides, he told the Today show this morning, $1,500 a month for a six-bedroom lake house is a steal.

In a soap opera-ish turn, he actually did not seek the house out. Palin's permanent neighbor, McGinniss's landlord, tracked him down and offered it to him. It was an act of revenge on the Palins for, allegedly, owing the neighbor money.

The Palins have raised their fence, so McGinniss can't see over, and Sarah has lashed out at him. "Wonder what kind of material he'll gather while overlooking Piper's bedroom, my little garden, and the family's swimming hole?" she wrote on, where else, Facebook.

She calls it stalking, and he calls it good journalism; but what would you call it?

I have to disagree with anonymous no 11. If Glenn Beck does this, it'll be all over the MSNBC, CNN. It'll probably be part of the mainstream news. The outrage and anger will be outpouring. I will bet you bucks on that one. :)

If this is happening to the Obamas after office, someone with a conservative journalism background who's trying to write a piece about him and move/rent next door to him and his family, the outrage, the outrage! But since this is a hated conservative female figure in the Liberal world, of course, it's all good and dandy. Call it journalism, call it whatever. And why are you guys so focused on this person anyway since no one from your side like her? Why even write about her? Do you all find her to be such an important, newsworthy figure?

The irony is the guy moved next door and has never been seen "spying" or photographing or video taping anything. He didn't come over on to their property to introduce himself. Just moved in and began enjoying Wasilla and talking to the locals. Yet the first thing Palin did after Todd went over introduced himself and realized who the guy was was sit on their yard and take pictures of the guy and post them on Facebook (invasion of privacy). Then went wild declaring themselves victims to all kinds of imagined future behavior(create false rumors, hearsay and fraudulent accusations against an innocent person) and then even letting the local paper make sure the guy knows they will shoot him if he trespasses(veiled threats of violence). All the guy had to do to make Palin look even more foolish, irrational, paranoid and pathetic was move next door. No other actions on his part where required. Kudos McGinniss's and to the property owner for renting to this journalist. And when Palin say's "the family watering hole" she isn't referring to a pool in the backyard but the entire lake. She is claiming the lake as her families watering hole. You betcha Palin (uses finger as cutesy gun and makes clicking noises while winking). You folksy idiot you!

oh, and after actually watching the video, he's an established author, very intelligent and had honestly doesn't seem to have an malicious intent. the place is $1,500 for six bedrooms, that's a pretty good price!

as a journalist, it's probably good to be in such close vicinity to your subject, it's kind of like going along for a ride with an interviewer, though in this case he's kind of uninvited. chloe: she probably believes if she yells "perv!" it would deflect attention from her.

And P.S., has anyone else noticed that her first line of defense against any man who's not a fan of her's (David Letterman, this biographer, etc.) is to imply that they're perverted child molesters?

Runningesq - GOOD POINT! And also, from the photo's I've seen, it's not like in a city where your neighbor's house is 10 ft away from yours. I highly doubt he's going to be in a position to spy into her daughter's bedroom.

I love how she tries to sound so "folksy" -- have you seen her house? Having money is fine, but stop calling your inground pool "the swimming hole"

Not saying that the guy is a paparazzi, perhaps it's better for a guy to be renting houses next to 'celeb's or whoever 'hot' not being recognized as paparazzi. It's seemingly less 'unsavory' in that way. But of course, I'd see it like the way a paparazzi will want to do it, if they have the chance or opportunity, why not, so this guy is the same way. It's all about opportunity and he sees it offered, and he took it although he can say 'no, thanks.' :)

I don't know why but Lady Ga ga's 'Paparazzi' song is playing in my head while reading the post. LOL! Oh I'm sure if paparazzi can rent the house next door to...Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's for that price, they'd jump and take it too. Opportunity knocks and of course they would jump to get it. It's up to people to interpret if it's good journalism or etc.
