When Mary-Kate Olsen saw her ex, Nate Lowman, at a concert Monday night, she allegedly ignored him — and this rumor was news.

"Without making eye contact or saying a word, Mary-Kate dodged in the other direction," an anonymous busybody told the New York Post. "The two didn't have any interaction." I can empathize. Though sometimes the fear of seeing an ex is way worse than the encounter.

It may look better to confront him and act nonchalantly, but that's easier said than done. Have you ever run in the other direction when an ex was coming your way?

is it odd that i'm still close friends with my exes? i've had a couple serious relationships and although they ended up in breaking apart, we've always tried to maintain a friendship, which i know can be hard. i haven't had a nasty breakup (thank god) and so i've been lucky enough to still KIT with the exes. i guess it doesn't help that we have some same group of friends.

Depends on which ex, most are friendly but there are definitely two that I would ignore. That is, if I could resist the urge to stomp on their nuts :)

No. Thankfully in my cases, time has healed the wounds, and we were capable of being civil with one another.

I haven't had to do this, but I'm not saying I wouldn't. If I had run into an ex right after a breakup I probably would have. Maybe at this point I wouldn't feel the need to turn the other way, because it's not like any wounds with any exes are fresh, but I may still avoid and pretend I didn't see him if possible if I was with my current boyfriend, just because that's awkward for everyone, and there's just no need to do the introduction.

Yes i did and will do for some of them. If we broke up and didn't stay friends it's not to play the friend, or go check if everything is fine. For some of them i broke up to have no connections with them anymore. It's hard maybe but it's how i get over it all. And after some months, i guess they don't mind. Sometimes in life we loose people, and i find here is a perfect example of how it goes when it happens. And i would understand to be ignored as well (and surely i have been at occasions).

I did, a few times after a bad break up, I had already moved on but he hurt me. So I decided to ignore him although he looked happy to see me. Now, (its been about a year since I have not seen him) I would probably say hello. Maybe.

I haven't run into any exes when I wasn't expecting to interact with them. Moving to the other side of the metro area was very helpful. :D

I think it's healthy to get on with things. Ignoring an ex when the wounds are still fresh is perfectly polite. Let's also not forget that gossip writers are hired to insinuate facts from the vapor of nuance.
