How Old is Too Old to Trick-Or-Treat?

Confession time: I trick-or-treated well into high school. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a bag full of suckers. I'm also a big fan of dressing up and running around town in a sugar-induced frenzy. (Although these days, it's more like a nacho-induced frenzy.) But now that I'm older, the vision of costumed teenagers with brown paper sacks, chanting those three sing-song syllables at my doorstep, is a little disconcerting. What do you think?

i think its fine for adults to trick or treat in a decent manner and not acting like a child.

I was tall for my age, at my full height of 5'5" when I was 11, and I looked a little older than I was. My best friend was almost 2 years younger than me, but also pretty tall (she's now about 5'9"). I was heartbroken when people started saying "aren't you a little old for this?" Some of them were really reluctant to give me candy. A couple might have refused... I can't remember.I kept at it until I was 14 though. Even meanies couldn't keep me away from free candy! I had to work harder on the costumes though...

I think once you reach a certain age you shouldn't invaid the little ones space. You had your turn - not it is time to be an adult and throw your own party with your own candy!! Yah!

I give them candy too, but it does secretly annoy me. And last year, this teenage punk kid rode his *^@% bicycle up to my front door and then knocked my candy bowl on the ground, laughing! It totally ruined my night. I love seeing the cute little kids and even the sweet teenagers all dressed up, but guys like that are the reason why I'm the Halloween Grinch this year.

I think the attitude is important regardless of age. I've seen 8-year-olds be malicious as well when it comes to holidays.

It depends on the teenagers' attitudes towards trick-or-treating. If they're really into the spirit of fun and not be malicious with it, then I think it's great. It's almost like wondering how old is too old to stop believing in Santa Claus.

Greggie, agreed. I'd much rather they be out enjoying the tradition than out getting into trouble.Plus, we only have one under twelve and I LOVE making costumes.

I don't agree with the poll options, though. (Shocker, I know.) I'd give them the same amount of candy I have any trick or treater.

i agree Greggie... unless they are those teens that just run up "give me candy" and take off. :P But I'm all for it if they are really getting into the spirit!

As long as you have fun with it, Trick or Treat. I don't care how old you are. I love seeing teenagers out having fun on Halloween just as much as I love seeing toddlers.
