How Do You Know You're in Love?

The trailer for How Do You Know, a rom-com with a love triangle between Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon, and Owen Wilson, looks somewhat promising as far as romantic comedies go. It asks one of the dating world's great questions: how do you know you're in love?

Well, probably not as one character says — "when I start using condoms with the other girls." But if you've ever fallen in love, or think you have, you've probably begun some inner dialogue with "I must be in love if _____." So, now finish it!

I knew when after much heartbreak, failed relationships and rapid hope loss, I met him and got "that teenage feeling." I never thought I'd ever get that back, but I have it with him and that's how I knew. The way I feel about him makes me (for the 1st time in 10 years) not care about being emotionally vulnerable. I can barely stand to be without him, think of us constantly, and generally don't care what we do on dates, so long as I get to be with him I'm happy. Genuinely happy.

So I started asking myself these questions:Would I still want to be with him if he gained a lot of weight? What if he lost his job? If he became disabled? Ashleydawn, I agree with what you said completely. I had dated before my S.O., and felt like and lust but never love. It is hard to describe, but for me I just KNEW when it was love. I feel like it is in the littlest things, from letting him choose where to go to dinner, to the big things like never wanting to be with anyone else but him; and everything in between! Love is amazing.

When my husband and I started seeing each other, I was in a difficult place emotionally and had a lot of thinking about myself to do before being in a new relationship. He offered me to take a couple days off without seeing each other to figure out what I wanted. The respect and understanding he had with me, I had never known that with anyone else. It took me 2 days and I realized I was in love with him, cuz those 2 days were the hardest ever. I went back to him and we are together ever since.

I realized that I was in love when just being in his presence, even without a single kiss or even a touch, was enough.I knew I was in love with J. when I'd do stupid stuff like clean up barf on the Tilt-A-Whirl in the pouring rain (we worked together at an amusement park) and haul water jugs up the stairs of the 4 story tall roller coaster and work double shifts just to spend more time with him.By the way, does anyone else have that silly "That's How You Know" song from Enchanted stuck in their head now?

For me, I knew that it was love when I was willing to put his needs before my own. As a very independant person, I was taught to always take care of myself first and then worry about others. But with him, I always want to make sure he is happy and well taken care of before I take care of myself. :)

Love the last comment. The movie really resonated with me about how you can be in a decent/good relationship with a great guy and everythings good on paper but somethings missing or doesn't quite add up.....and no matter how hard you try you cant shake that feeling. I keep checking back here because I really want to know how people know when they're in love. Its obviously a tough one to answer. Personally, not sure I've ever been in love before and i'm guessing if youre not sure then you probably never have been? At 26 this worries me a little lol.
