A group of women beat a man holding a shield over his head with sticks during Lathmar Holi celebrations in the village of Nandgaon near Mathura, India. Lathmar Holi, which occurs before Holi day, is a Northern Indian festival that also began with a legend about Radha and Krishna. But this one was about Krishna visiting Radha's village, where he teased her and her friends, which caused the women to chase him away. The tradition continues today for Lathmar Holi with men from Krishna's village of Nandgaon visiting the women from Radha's village of Barsana. The men sing provocative songs to woo the women, but in return, the women chase them away beating them with sticks called lathis.
