Deep v-neck shirts may make our top 10 worst male fashion offenses, but metrosexual men care not. They've now bared enough chest to create a new word: heavage. It's everything you fear — man cleavage, or when a low-cut or unbuttoned shirt reveals chest hair and pecs.
The look is inspired by the "unabashed machismo" of Latin-American men and the natural, more-rugged look of the '70s. Menswear historian (!) Robert Bryan called the decade "the golden age of male chest hair," citing John Travolta's plunging neckline in Saturday Night Fever as its zenith. "The convention back then was to skip enough shirt buttons to show off a thick forest of hair," he said, "perhaps topped with a gold medallion as a sign of virility."
Blech. Let's hope this word du jour becomes a word of yore stat!

Yuck! I really do not want to see men's chest hair. I even find it gross when a guy wearing a regular tee has that really high chest hair line so you still see hair sticking out the top.
It just feels unsanitary somehow. Like I don't wanna be behind that guy at a food buffet or accidentally bump into his chest, ick.
1This trend sure makes me want to heave-age. All over the place. Many times.
2I am totally on board with this trend and it being gross..... however I am having extraordinarily inappropriate thoughts and feelings at work seeing Ed Westwick like that..... delish
3The thing is, I am old enough to remember this style. I had a 7th grade geography teacher who sported that look...complete with the medallion. He thought he was looking pretty studly. (Yes, that was actually a word back in the day!) Every time he would mention "the armpit of Africa" we would burst into uncontrollable, yet muffled, giggles. Thanks for the mammeries, Mr. Schmidt!
4That photo is not a v-neck. It's a button front thin sweater with no shirt underneath, lol. BTW tell that foo to put on a shirt please.
5Hmmm...honestly I love this look on him.
6Dunno. Men have chest hair, women have boobs. Why would it fair for women to show off cleavage but "gross" for guys to show off their own cleavage, just because they have hair?
7yummmmy!!! Oh my.. Ed Westwick.. I want you
8barf.
"heave-age" - hahaaha
9I'm with fuzzles - it makes me want to heavage all over my keyboard. I don't mind seeing chest hair in the bedroom - but not when I'm out grocery shopping! Yuck!
10he's still hot
11Hattteee this trend.
12Hmm...I can see how this would be unappealing on an unattractive guy, completely....
...but it's Ed Westwick....so I'm not really complaining.
