The Midwest might be suffering from severe Winter storms and power outages, but Down Under record-high temperatures are torturing rural towns with wild fires, and Australian Open tennis players and spectators with heat stroke. In Melbourne, temperatures reached 113 F° (45.1°C), marking the third consecutive day with temperatures over 109°F (43°C).
The conditions have been described as furnace-like, and the professional tennis players in town have quicker feet than usual — they say their feet feel like they're burning through their shoes.
If it's chilly in your neck of the woods, these pics from Australia will surely warm you up!

Gorgeous
My cold ass would rather not see those pics thank you very much!
1Is anyone suprised that Australia is going through a heat wave in their summer?
2I'd rather have 28 than 113 for damn sure. Ick.
3I'm with Dave. It's summer down there so why be surprised. Australia is crazy hot during this time of year anyways.
And UnDave, I'm at the terminal right now, heading for Tampa, it's a short 45min flight from FLL to TPA do you still want to switch tickets with me?
4Wow- no sticks in bikinis down there... I'd fit right in!
5ohh wow. Be safe, myst!
6Poor Djokovic had to forefit out of his ranking in the Aussie Open... so sad!
7Thanks, bellaressa.. I love Tampa but I'm more excited to be hitting up Ybor than the Superbowl for whatever odd reason, I'm not really excited to be going this year since I don't care for either teams
8Im a miami chic..I survive in hot weather not this jersey weather..ugg.
9ooh where in Miami are you Tikita? I live in West Palm
10
I guess I should say I WAS a miami chic.
11I live in Jersey now but I grew up in miami (kendall).
Why is the fact that it's summer on the southern half of the world news? I think summer happens there every year, but an Aussie Sugar can correct me if summer is some sort of oddity there.
12Aww from Miami to Jersey... I pity you Momma..I'll take the heat anytime and any day.
Well ladies and gents.. my flight is being called. Hope everyone have a great weekend
13good luck!
14Have fun Myst!
15Last time I saw a man in knee pads it was hot too
16
Hypno!
17Petty comment of the day - only ONE of those women "should" wear a bikini. LOL
18Petty AND unnecessary! Well done.
19I live in Texas, those kinds of temperatures are completely normal during our summer.
It feels like their feet are burning through their shoes? Wusses.
20LOL Clara
21Thank you chaton. LOL I'm actually ashamed of myself. I know you weren't complimenting me, but hey, LOL
22Colleeninator, I grew up in Phoenix, and I also had to laugh at the "My feet are being burned through my shoes!" comments. If you don't like the heat, get out of Australia!
23I'm in Phoenix right now chatondeneige and although I'll be safely back in the Bay Area before the heat hits I do remember a certain 121 degree day in the Summer of 1986 very well. I like dry heat though it's the hummid heat that gets me.
24Wow. I couldn't do it.
25Djokovic lost because he's not in good enough shape and/or he didn't prepare properly. No reason to feel bad for him about that... especially since he quits matches fairly often in comparison to other top contenders.
And tennis courts get insanely hot when the sun beats down on them. I've played in 90 degrees and felt like my shoes would melt... the on-court temperature for some matches was above 120, so I have no doubt they could feel the heat coming through their shoes.
26And couldn't we have gotten a pic of Fernando Verdasco? He played for over 5 hours in the heat and never even messed up his hair! The bodies in tennis are the best in any sport, if you ask me... men and women alike.
27I agree that I like the women's bodies in tennis...
28For those saying it's summer in Australia and it's normal to be hot - those are not normal summer temperatures, not even in Oz and especially not in Melbourne. And for those who might say that Arizona in summer has temps like that too, I want to remind them that Arizona does not have a 99-100% humidity at the same time.
29I'm not a Australian Sugar, but I'm a NZ one, and this is news because as flyingroo said, it's not normal! Sure, it's summer, but these are some of the highest temperatures ever!
