Have You Ever Had a Valentine's Day Go Awry?

There's a lot of pressure that surrounds Valentine's Day, and for those that crack under such pressure, it could make for a tricky holiday. Often times when you put so much emphasis on making one specific day perfect, things can easily go haywire. This valentines day has not been fantastic. Well, it has and it hasn't. I spent weeks buying him all these lovely gifts that I knew he'd love. When the day came it turned out that he "didn't really believe in it" and he hadn't bought me anything at all. We live together so he made me breakfast and then we went out for the day.I was SO disappointed and was crying on valentines day morning for being so stupid to have bought him gifts.

I wore a garter belt. He refused to touch me because he told me it reminded him of his grandma.(Because apparently he has seen a picture of his grandma in a garter belt. Which says a lot about his family.)Then I cried for a long time. And we missed our dinner reservation.Then we made up and my roommates came home and I put on a sweatshirt and he and I went to a 24-hr deli and that was that.

The first v-day with my husband I busted my ankle and couldn't go through with his plans. We had been dating three months at that point and he wanted to go out on the town and dress up and be uber-romantic. Two days before v-day I was playing in my co-ed soccer league and got cracked really hard by some big guy. My ankle was screwed. I couldn't bear weight on it and it was huge. We toned the evening down and I hobbled around in sandals and jeans on Lincoln Rd. in South Beach for pizza (from where we had our first date) and a sundae. It turned out to be great because I am not into the big $$$ to-do for v-day and prefer much simpler gestures.

Last year my boyfriend didnt make any reservations anywhere, he didnt get me a present or anything though he SAID he wanted to get me a massage at a Spa he had no idea how to go about it. I finally decided we were going to go to our favorite restaurant (I made the reservations) and then go get some fondue. I got home from work, ran upstairs to get changed and grab him and when we came back downstairs... my car was gone. The building we lived in TOWED it because they had just changed the rules on the short-term parking stalls but didnt tell any of the residents. I was like the 20th person to get towed that day.We had to go all the way across the city to rescue my car and by the time we got it I'd payed $160 and we missed our reservation and ended up eating in some crappy little pub before going back home to bed and pretending that that day had never happened.This year we're also pretending it's not happening so we're going yachting with me parents all weekend.

If by awry, you mean amusingly wrong, sure. For our first APHD, my boyfriend and I hadn't quite "officialized" our status or whether we were getting the other something. I decided at the last minute that perhaps I should get him something, and so I set out to go to the local store and buy him a something other than this box of chocolates. I got on the wrong bus, and rode it all the way around down, getting back to my room about three minutes before he knocked on the door, carrying my gift. I went out the next day and hit up the day-after sales, and got him something awesome.This year, his dad is in town, so we're postponing it for a week or so.

i don't think i've ever had a bad one in terms of something a guy did on purpose, but one year i was feeling a sore throat and the very next day ended up with terrible tonselitis which really sucked...and last year i went night skiing with my then boyfriend (he said he thought it would be romantic but i know he just rathered skiing than a romantic dinner) and after we tried to get dinner but everything was closed so we ended up eating bagels from a coffee shop...i guess that was kinda disapointing but at the time we were in such a new awesome relationship i didn't seem to care

He had been saying that for like two years and I had enough of the false promises. So he stormed out and went to target and bought me an ugly coffee table and a fake plant to put on it. Because I had been talking about getting a new coffee table. That day killed the romance for me. We broke up a few months later.

My ex thought it would be awesome to take me on a cruise for V-Day a few years ago. We got in a fight the night before Valentine's Day, and had to spend the whole day avoiding each other. Kinda hard when you share a tiny cabin on a cruise ship. It was sheer misery.

Four years ago I spent so much time fretting over what to give my ex for Valentine's Day. I spent hours downloading his favorite songs so I could make him a CD, and I bought a blank card in which I listed all the reasons that I (thought I) loved him. I was so excited to see what he'd give me.After I gave him his gifts, he told me he would've gotten me flowers but his "favorite flower shop was closed" (which was suspicious, considering it was, you know, VALENTINE'S DAY). Then he tossed me 'Dodgeball' on dvd and said "Hope ya like it." I felt like a complete idiot for spending so much time and effort on his gifts, when he just spent five minutes at the local Target to get mine.Needless to say I was disappointed, and we broke up a couple of months later.

I dropped the finish to a gourmet meal I had prepared.A heart shaped peanut butter pie...my husband was so sweet he went and bought a n.y style cheesescake.I appreciated it.

The one time in 4 years that my ex actually did something for me on Valentine's day he sent me a dozen red roses at work. By the end of the day they were dead and when I told him they had all died he called the florist and they refunded his money. He later told me they gave him the choice of sending me new flowers or getting his money back and he chose the refund because valentine's day was almost over anyway.
