Has Living With a Friend Ever Backfired?

It looks like their strained relationship has finally come to a head — Audrina is moving out of the house she shared with her Hill's costars LC and Lo. We've talked a lot about whether it's a good idea to live with friends and in this case, it clearly wasn't. Of course, many factors make or break any kind of living arrangement, but tell me, have you ever lived with a friend and had it go terribly wrong? Have you ever had a friendship be permanently strained because you were just lousy roommates?

i lived with 2 of my friends my senior year of hs and it was the worst mistake of my life. i'm never doing that again.

It always backfires especially if you have different lifestyles. My friend who lives with us now is really spur of the moment but usually it just means "everything is a big mess because I can't figure out what to do" and it annoys me. I'm the type who likes to plan everything in advance for the most part and he thinks it's fine to show up with his gf on Friday night when I don't know she's coming. It's mine and my husbands house and he just lives with us so I feel that is rude. I wouldn't say it's a dealbreaker but things always get messed up while they are living there but usually go back to normal or better when they move out.

My best friend and I moved in together our first year of college. We were definitely not the best roommates, but we were also sharing a very tiny dorm room. The next year four of us decided to move in together in 2 apartments (one was upstairs and one downstairs) and I moved in with the same friend, and we were definitely not good as roommates. It took a while but our friendship went back to normal, but now we know we are better off as friends than roommates. Note to those who want to live with their best friend in college: make sure you know them well enough that you wont be surprised by anything they do and think twice about it! I would rather keep a best friend than live with them and ruin it.

I've lived with 3 friends over the years. 2 of them it ruined our friendship during the times we did live together, but things are back how they were before now we've moved out. The third is my best friend, and I still live with her, its working out perfectly and couldn't be better!

oh yes, twice.. one was the first year i got an apartment. caused me to lose 2 of what i thought at the time were best friends. one i will still talk to if i see her, the other, not really even that! then, come the following year, i move into a new place and the same thing happens again with another girl. i used to beat myself up over it thinking it was my fault about all these friends not working out.. but then i realized i have lived with other friends and it has, so i dont think that anymore. unfortunately, you never can really know when or if it will work out until it is too late!

O yea.I lived with my bf, and a new friend.I was becoming closer and closer to my new friend. Which pissed my bf off. She ended up moving out. And now we are closer then ever. The other friend and I are still friends, but I learned where my priorities lie.

i have to say that living with a friend can really be a horrible thing to a friendship. i've lived with friends during college and i can't say that i even think about talking to them ever again. i don't know - you learn a lot more about people and their habits and i hate to say it but even with friendships, a little mystery isn't a bad thing.

My best friend and I lived together in her basement apartment (her parents lived upstairs). It was great at first, decorating, good laughs, permanent sleepovers. Although we had some mutual friends, most of our "own" friends were different. She would have parties with her friends at our place so I would go out to clubs or whatever with mine. I would come home to a war zone!! She wouldn't clean up the garbage, empties or anything for weeks and then her mom would get on MY back about keeping the place clean. I started going out more because I couldnt take the mess and I wasn't about to clean up after her and her friends. She didn't like the fact that I went out a lot so she ended up moving back upstairs with her parents who would only make her pay $30/month to live up there while I was still paying $375!... now get this though, When I went out she continued to use the apartment I was paying for to have her messy parties. That was it for me and I was outta there! We had a strained relationship for a few months but we're fine now. I just don't bring up that awful year because it gets me going.

Yes, following a particularly nasty and messy breakup, my best friend moved 100 miles away from her hometown to live with me. We had a lot of fun at first, but it didn't last long. She was miserable and just wasn't herself anymore - she was irresponsible and sloppy, smoked like a chimney, drank like a fish, didn't pay bills on time (sometimes not at all), watched TV all day letting a disgusting mess pile up instead of looking for a job, and would be mean and sarcastic whenever something good happened to me. I tried so desperately to be patient and to help her, but ultimately I asked her to leave after 4 months; our friendship was permanently ruined.

I've only been living with my friends for 5 days now, so I've really no experience in this area. Although, I can say that my roommate last year was someone I didn't know beforehand, and we became friends... But after a few months, she turned out to be a nightmare. We were completely different people.

I almost always end up hating any friends I've ever lived with. Temporarily of course. As soon as we moved on from living together our relationship improved again. I think its just hard living with people, period!

I've had all but one of my closest friends live with me at one point or another. I'm still close with all of them. :)

I live with the my roomate from College so it works out..this post comes at an ironic time bcus we are fighting a little right now..but I think she is the only girl that I can live with..my other friends..we are just way too close to live together..if that makes sense! lol

Not to me..but I saw my friend who moved in with our other friend (they were best friends) have their friendship go down the tubes after they lived together for like 3 months. They are still mending their relationship
