Handle This: A Physical Fight Erupts

During a visit to your boyfriend’s parents' home, you can tell that tension is running high between your boyfriend and his brother. Although they’ve always remained cordial to one another when you've been around, you know they've never gotten along well.

When they disappear for a moment, you think nothing of it, but moments later, you hear a scuffle and find your boyfriend being attacked by his brother. His parents aren't intervening, and you can see your boyfriend is getting hurt, so how do you handle this?

My boyfriend wouldn't want me to intervene, but I would anyway. I'm one of those people who is fiercely protective of those who I care about and while I may have a friendly relationship with the brother I wouldn't hesitate to break his face if it saves my boyfriend from getting injured.

LOL, since my boyfriends brother is 8 years younger, I hope my boyfriend wouldn't get beaten up! Anyway, I would tell them to stop but let them handle it. It isn't my place to jump in between two siblings.

i'd jump on his brothers face and go straight for the eyes. haha naw...my guy is a muay thai professional boxer so i'd probably grab pop corn and make myself comfortable.

I would intervene! I do kickboxing and tae kwon do so I could do some protection and blocking? I don't see why his parents wouldn't intervene though. This is one of the more stranger questions I feel...

Knowing me, I would intervene. I would try to shield my boyfriend with my body. I speak from experience. :)

I also agree with Lovely... the more I think about it, my boyfriend would probably be upset if I did intervene before it was like, a medical emergency.

It depends on whether he's being viciously attacked or if they're just in a fist fight. My boyfriend's older brother is a bit of a bully and so they fight occasionally when they're both at home, but it's just them letting out a little aggression--should either of them actually get hurt, the other would know to stop. If it was like, him lying on the floor bloody and being kicked at, well, then I would go beat the crap out of his brother, because I've always secretly wanted to.

i'd think long and hard about being with someone with such a violent family. if the parents aren't doing anything then it likely happens often enough to be "no big deal." if he's getting hurt enough that it's going to require a trip to an emergency room (broken bone, deep cut, etc), then i'd intervene. otherwise i'd take my cue from the parents and stay out of it. getting involved could make everything worse physically and mentally.

Ha. I'd headlock the brother and start punching him in the face. But I've always been aggressive that way. That said, I really can't picture myself being with someone that would require me to come to their rescue...

I would either yell at the parents to do something, or step in myself-- hopefully they will stop if they see I am in between them.

hmmm i dunno...I know with MY boyfriend (if I was in this situation) he wouldn't want me to intervene. I wouldn't want to either, both of them are tough guys and already had their fair share of fistfights and I don't want to chance accidently getting a fist in my face. It happens. They're brothers. My sis and me still have VERY heated arguments (nothing physical in a few years tho).

I'd probably say that I'd call the police if they don't cut it out. And if they don't I'd run to the phone to make them nervous.

Intervene, of course! I would like my boyfriend to rescue ME when I'M attacked thank you very much! I'd fall in the middle and try to keep them apart. Chances are that because you're a girl, the brother will stop in order not to hurt you.
