HBO Documentary About Obama — Too Soon or Bring It On?

President Obama is a big fan of HBO, and apparently the feeling's mutual.

Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to distribute HBO's documentary By the People: The Election of Barack Obama. The film will play in US theaters, while also being distributed internationally.

The documentary, which follows Obama from the announcement of his candidacy to his inauguration, provides a behind-the-scenes look at the campaign. It includes interviews with campaign staff and aides. I'm sure some 2012 presidential contenders will be watching!

I loved Journeys with George, which chronicled Bush's 2000 campaign, but I have a feeling this one will have less of a home video feel to it. Will you watch?

It's not a matter of whether it's too soon or not. The fact is it's going to be a pro-Obama praise fest and not present the facts. These Tea Parties are a real sign that not everyone in America thinks Obama is great and they didn't all think he was great during the campaign but HBO isn't going to present that side. It will just be a propaganda film.

For me yeah it is too soon considering they'll just have to make another once he leaves office. However, from a business stand point I also realize that they have to strike while the iron is hot and they feel that they can make a lot of money off this right now as well.

Too Soon. At least give him to years in office. I like the guy but I am not as infatuated with him as some people seem to be.

No thanks, I'm tapped out on politics for a while. Though if it focuses on the people behind the campaign moreso and not on Obama himself it could be interesting stuff.

I wouldn't watch it as I don't find him all that compelling. If they do it right though it might be interesting to see how he was able to organize a winning campaign. That was impressive from a guy two years ago who had no experience and was an unknown to become POTUS. Anyway, the love affair from the media continues. 100 days in we'll see documentaries and special news reports. A year from now we'll get the obligatory "The Year of Obama". This HBO thing will be just one of many. The American people love this guy. Creating this stuff will be cheap and the ratings will be high.

It does seem a bit early for Obama documentaries. It makes it seem as if getting elected is or will be his biggest accomplishment. Let the man get out of Office first before we start archiving him. What if he gets elected for a second term? Wouldn't you want that included in this specific documentary as well and if he doesn't isn't that important to?

TOO SOON, my gosh let the man do his job as President. I know that his election was historic believe me I was almost in tears, but some people and the media need to pay more attention to policy and not all this extra stuff.And I'm going to go out on a limb and say if you don't know what happen during this past Election you have been living under a rock, this was an story that got top billing on every news cycle from the day he announced his run for the Presidency. We need to start living in the here and now and not in the past....CHANGE right?

I wouldn't watch, but whatever. I guess since it's about his campaign and inauguration it'd be okay. If it was about his presidency, I'd probably say too soon.

I had to vote to see the results, but I wanted to vote neither. I probably won't be tuning in, but, since it's about the election, I don't really think it's too soon. (Meaning that it's about the election as opposed to about his presidency.)
