Don't call him a gleek. Matthew Morrison, who plays the fearless faculty leader on Glee, admits he wasn't an outcast in high school but actually the soccer-playing prom king.

However, he suspects the show resonates "because everyone in high school felt like an outcast. . . . I guess I was popular, but I was insecure about a ton of stuff. I don't think anyone can get away from high school unscathed."

I think there's a lot of truth to that, but being popular probably doesn't hurt! Were you one of the popular kids in high school? A geek? A jock? Or were you more the artsy, glee/drama club type?

I went to a industrial high school in Norway(not Oslo) (I'm from Norway). Some of my freshman classmate were 18 years old, and most of the students minded their own business. People who tried to act like their were popular, were looked upon as childish and immature. When someone were bullied there was always a teacher or some random students who stepped in. It was illegal to harassing and bully people, and when girls talked behind other girls back the teacher and other classmates reminded them to act like a mature being. We acted mostly as grown ups in high school, and there was no cliques whats so ever. There was of course different kinds of people in school (i.ex. goths,"nerds", preps etc),but they didn't ridicule each other. I knew for a fact two people who were best friends, even though one of them was Gothic and the other one a bit of a prep. Everyone in each different class(either if it was hairdresser class, or workshop class) looked after each other, and made sure no one was left out. So yeah, high school went pretty well for me.

I was a very late bloomer, so I was definitely not popular in high school. I remember on the day of my senior prom, I dressed up and got my makeup and hair done--things I never did because I didn't know how to do all that on my own. So many people who had barely spoke to me before came up to me shocked at how I looked. Inside I had always believed that I was beautiful...it just took a long time for other people to see that in me too. People in high school are very superficial--they don't bother to get to know you beyond your external appearance. Those of us who didn't have the looks or the know-how at that age never got the chance to be popular. That's OK with me...being popular in high school isn't a bad thing but it's not at all important in the grand scheme of things.

My group of 10 Girlfriends were made up of cheerleaders and ASB and we went to all the parties but we were not #1 popular group. Me especially, I was pretty quite. So... popular by association?? ha! good memories.

I wasn't super popular but I had my group of friends and I wasn't a geek. I just loved fashion and films back in high school. I was my own person and I loved high school and I miss it.

I wasn't popular at all in my highschool. But I'm all friends or at least civil with everyone; I never had a rift with anyone, or at least I thought :)

i was in the middle. i went to an all-girls catholic school, so it wasn't like we were trying to impress each other. LOL. there were cliques but everyone hung out and talked with each other, which i liked. i was always a floater type and got along with most everyone. i was voted to homecoming court so i'd say i was well-liked.

There were about 700 people in my class, so popularity wasn't really that big of a deal. There was a popular clique, but I never desired to be amongst them, because in reality, their social lives weren't that great. And in my opinion, they spent too much money, complained too much and were down right annoying. That being said, I had a lot of friends and was a member of numerous cliques. I remember for prom, I arrived with 25 of my closest friends and changed tables numerous times. So I wasn't popular, but I wasn't a total outcast either.

I went to a small high school and I don't think their was a specific "popular" clique. If you were really active in the school or a generally funny/interesting person, you were well known and popular. Some of the cheerleaders and athletes heads were too big, so maybe they thought their popular but, in reality (at my h.s.), most theater kids were. I was a quiet and shy person, not "unpopular" exactly but not well known even though I was active in a few clubs. Just "normal" I guess. I agree with b1luebunn, although I love glee, all these h.s. shows always exaggerate cliques (at least imo).

No, but in my defense my high school was so huge that I didn't know 3 out of 5 homecoming queen nominees. Some people were more well-known than others but I wouldn't say there was really one popular crowd.

I was never popular. I hated school because being around so many people for 7 hours a day made me nervous. I always felt like people were judging me or something.

I was in the popular group,The school i was in i was like the only hispanic(that did not speak spanish) girl very friendly, I liked to help everyone so yes a lot of people wanted to sit at my table at lunch and talk to me and when someone had beef with me i had a ot a people behind my back... LOL in 6th grade we would send then to what we called loserville table I think it was mean now!! but they were mean first... And when my mom brought me to PTY I was the only american girl who did not speak a lot of spanish so i was popular there also... Never tried to be always just like fell right in to it...i was deff not a mean girl but you knew not to fu... with me....

I wasn't popular.. but I went to a big school so I don't think there was a "popular" crowd.... A lot of people liked me because I had some of the best pot in the school.... lol (well maybe it's not really all that lol).....I didn't start smoking pot cuz it made me popular, but smoking pot did help me become more popular....It's actually funny, I see all these people who I went to high school with and it seems like I was a whole lot more popular then I ever thought. In all honesty though, I cared about being popular in middle school (I went to a pretty snobby private school and did not succeed in becoming popular... or even close to popular... I was pretty damn UNpopular), once I reached high school I was so over the whole "popularity" thing... I was also over the whole "school" thing and dropped out and got my GED when I was 16.

From Freshman through junior year I was not popular. I had my orchestra/AP class friends and it was all good. My junior year I started losing weight, joined the cheer squad, started dating one of my fellow cello players, and my senior year, BOOM! Me and the boyfriend are in the closest homecoming court race in school history! The rest of the year I put myself in charge of organizing events for an expanding group of friends, I started feeling comfortable talking to a wider variety of people and yea, I would say by graduation I was well known in school.

I was part of the smarty/band crowd. Not part of the popular group, but I held my own.

I wasn't popular nor an outcast. I wasn't in the "in crowd" but I had a close group of friends, and in general we got along with everybody... I think my school was too big for cliques, popularity wasn't that big of a deal.

I wasn't popular. It was just me and my best friend against the world (aka school)! My school was really big, and while there were groups of people who I bet felt popular, nobody really owned the school, not even the jocks.

I was definitely on the bottom rung of the social ladder, you could tell by my lack of being able to get a date for prom, but everyone was very nice to me. Actually, most of the "popular" kids were in choir, the play and honors/AP classes with me, so they respected me, we just didn't hang out or anything.Our choir was actually considered kinda cool. Our sports teams sucked, but we won awards and stuff :P

Uh, well...to give you an idea, at my graduation ceremony, I was described as a 'realist'. I went to an all-catholic school, so you can imagine how 'popular' that made me.

This is what I hate about the show. Most people weren't popular OR total outcasts. Most of us were just normal people.

Not at all. My older brother was one of the most popular though! My graduating class was about 800 students, I believe, I think I had 2 friends. I went there part time because I attended vocational school for audio recording (where I was MISS popular... being the only female out of 35 students). Unfortunately, thanks to social networking sites, people that were mean to me back then are trying to be my "bff" because of my job and such... I don't forgive people though.

I was. My popularity grew when I joined team sports. I did well (won the MVP trophy a few years in a row).
