Giving Men Flowers — A Do or Don't?

Receiving flowers at work might make your face turn as red as the roses, but for men, a whole other level of embarrassment could bloom. Convention holds that men are supposed to send flowers, and women are supposed to receive. Still, I don't buy it! Who says men can't enjoy a fresh floral scent — and if you oppose mixing bouquets with business for any gender, bringing your guy some colorful flowers outside of work could really brighten up his home.

A guy is never gonna say oh yes, send me flowers. Look at all the stereotyped most of you have spoke about - it signifies some metro/homo quality. So untrue. I think it depends what your guy appreciates. I've sent tons of flowers and he loved it. Bringing flowers to put on his own desk would be odd but some delivered and "forced" upon him, signifies that he's important to SOMEONE which I think most guys like. I think it makes him feel special. But I also think its a conversation piece for other women to approach him and flirt, etc!

Crap, sent before I could finish. I would LOVE to return the favor for him and get him buggy flowers, potted flowers, or herb plants. It's a very thoughtful gift.

I voted Do, my guy loves to bring me flowers. He used to pick them from his house and often they had some bugs still in them. To this day (years later, we moved in together), he tells me he needs to find some buggy flowers to bring me. :) I prefer flowers in a pot, but don't have a place for those. Or herb plants, fresh herbs for delicious homemade cooking is romantic.

A don't, however my husband would love wine or chocolates and believe it or not candles. He loves candles almost as much as I do!

If your guy can't handle flowers, then he prob has serious issues from always trying to conform to similar gender norms. I gave my ex daisies and he loved them. I can't imagine dating a guy that would be that obsessed about his 'masculine image' as to deny roses or, even worse, to have the actual act of me gifting them be considered a 'character flaw' on my part. I'm not saying that he wouldn't enjoy some 'brews,' but then again, I also love brews AND flowers, and I'm sure it's an insult to guys to believe they couldn't do the same. Why is it 'gay' for a guy to like nature if it isn't 'exotic'? Men's obsession with the exotic just brings up discourses surrounding colonialism and exploitation of 'exotic' places and peoples, in my book. Glad to know we've progressed...

i would never give a boy flowers.... however i wish there was a male equivalent for a nice gesture you can take a girl all the usual cliche's - flowers, chocolate, wine, candles but what do you get a boy as a nice 'hi' gift beer or wine? what else?! this is the main question!!

I only replied don't because my boyfriend would probably think it was a waste of money. But something more masculine, like a bamboo plant bgorgeouss mentioned would be cool!

I voted no - I don't know any guy who dreams of receiving flowers from his girlfriend! That said, I did give my boyfriend a bamboo plant once (it was after a conversation we had about it bringing good luck), and he really appreciated it and still has it on his desk!

Personally, I consider it a don't. I would never do that. Also, I agree with Hypnoticmix -- sending flowers would appeal to metrosexuals and homosexuals. Neither one I would be dating, as they're not my type.

I think it's safe to say that unless you're dealing with a metro-sexual or homosexual this is a don't. However, cool flowering house plants usually tropical because they're more masculine looking I think are cool.

I'm sure every guy daydreams about the day a girl will give him flowers. Seriously, don't try to create sentiment in a person who is incapable of feeling it.

Wow I'm the first. Seriously, no flowers for guys? Maybe my husband is an exception but he really likes getting flowers. I think for some men it's so unexpected that it's nice.
