GOP to File Fundraising Complaint Against Obama The Republican National Committee plans to file a fundraising complaint against Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign Monday, alleging it has accepted donations that exceed federal limits as well as illegal contributions from foreigners. Little is known about many of Obama's donors because the campaign is not required to disclose detailed information about people who give less than $200. The Obama campaign, which is not accepting public funds, has raised more than $468 million. About half has come from small donors.

Sour grapes over criminal activities? Puh-leeze. There are Americans living abroad, people. Try to be global and sophisticated like your beatified leader. As such, there's no problem with a London fundraiser. Just be sure the donations come from American citizens. These are not donations that are channeled through any local office, and they're not logged in by local volunteers.

I know at least 5 people personally who give small amounts of money every month and have been for quite a while. I think that he just has a great grass roots campaign.

I've volunteered for the campaign, and know how judiciously we track every single dollar that comes in...every penny from a yard sign or donation we document and record. The fact is that there are MILLIONS of people in this country that are terrified of 4 more years of living in a country with Republican leadership. There are a lot of people that are willing to chip in to help elect the leadership that they prefer. Obama's whole campaign has been about the effectiveness of large groups of people making small contributions and getting big results. And I am not just talking about financial contributions. I know the campaign anticipated this, so it will be a non-issue.

That's incorrect, Piper. If you pay attention to this site, when McCain goes negative it's mudslinging and attacking. When Obama does it, it's just politics.

The timing is suspicious, coming as it does as McCain's campaign makes it clear it's revving up the negativity.

Also, if we're going to talk about campaign contributions from foreigners, it seems natural to mention McCain's March '08 London fundraising event. :shrug:

It makes sense, the economy is so scary and McCain/Palin has nothing constructive to offer, so let's throw mud at Obama. It'll be disproved after the election, but for now, it'll be a pleasant distraction from reality.
