Oh Gods, this video is both embarrassing and awesome at the same time. I was laughing so hard! The best part of this video was learning that "you never have to compromise when you're right. That's for people that are wrong." That will come in handy in my marriage.

You too haus, you too :) I suppose it's easier to criticize another government when your own is too busy participating in petty arguments that it can't get anything done. Right now the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition are having a two-year-old style temper tantrum over who loves the Canadian troops more. It's irritating.

We certainly do... Brian Mulroney anyone? How about Bob Rae who nearly bankrupted Ontario and somehow managed to almost become the leader of the Liberal (federal) party? I have no patience for my fellow Canadians who think our country is perfect and therefore we have the right to put on our judgmental toques and criticize American politicians.

Wow. Palin's supporters are truly just like her...clueless. They don't talk that intelligent.
Yeah this just makes me even more happy to be Canadian. An individual like Palin or George W. Bush could never gain political power in Canada. Some of the main political issues that Canadians are concerned about are education and health care. Also, we don't have this weird irrational fear of socialism. Universal health care is a good thing, I don't understand why Americans are so afraid of it.

Watching this surprisingly makes me think of Alan Keyes. If what SKG says is true about how we pick someone to vote for, he must be my exception. He's smart, has strong moral values, etc., etc....and then you listen to him talk and you think "Gee buddy, where's your personality?"

SKG - I agree with a lot of that comment. I think we all like to think that so much goes in to our vote and everyone elses, but at the end of the day I think you're right. People will vote for plenty of reasons that have nothing to do with the issues.

I think if the government decided who could and couldn't vote it would be both un-American and undemocratic. To me, it stinks of the literacy tests the South used to stop blacks from voting. Because of my degree, I actually know a lot about the psychology of voting, particularly the political psychology of voting. Truthfully, just liking a candidate is as valid a reason to vote for someone as most of us come up with. It's just simply not true that we sit around, evaluate a candidate's positions on issues, and then decide. We use shortcuts, often emotional, to arrive at our voting choices. The Michigan model shows that either the candidate or their stance on specific issues make us arrive at our voting choice. Palin has a high likability heuristic for these people. That's cool. But still very funny to watch.

I would not disagree with at least a basic competency test over knowledge of the government system and the candidates/their policies... I would not expect my opinion to count on any matter that I had zero knowledge of, but when it comes to voting, anyone's opinion (no matter the reasoning... or lack of...) counts. It's scary when you think about it.
