Funny or Scary? Dumpster Dining

Trend Alert: Employed professionals eating out in community dumpsters. These people are part of a growing conservation movement, called Freeganism, aimed to lessen the amount of wasteful food disposal by restaurants and local grocery stores. These dumpster divers grocery shop right out of the trash. They search for edible produce, day-old bread, and even meat and dairy products. Cynthia Powell, a Freegan living in Berkeley, California, states: "I'm not hungry. I do it because it's good food, it's free and it's conservation." Giggle Girls, what do you think? Kind of on topic, kind of not: I really dislike seeing food go to waste. There are several supermarkets and bakery type places that throw out food that isn't bought during the day. It's perfectly good food, just not "fresh". Pretty sad to see ... Of course, Dumpster Dining does seem like someone just being a cheapo.

I read about this a few months ago, and I have a hard time believing that the people they interviewed are actually doing this to save the environment, more like they're too cheap to buy their own food. :(

I agree flippy. "Employed professionals" digging in dumpsters to eat GARBAGE that would have probably been taken by the homeless. Just sad. If you want to be economical, buy Ramen noodles, you misers!

wouldn't it be a tad more effective to start some sort of prgram where they collect leftover food from restaurants to donate to those actually in need? i'm just sayin'.
