Darn it! And Fox News thought they had a way out of the Obama presidency! Foiled, curses!
1I dont think anyone thought they had a way out of his presidency.
As for Caroline Kennedy, WHEW, finally some good news!
2UGH!!!! comment # 1
3I think the redo is cute. Makes up for the both of them.
China manipulating currency, never communism is perfect, that could neeevvveeerrrr happen.
Glad Kennedy stepped down. Hopefully Patterson will give the seat to someone who has actually earned it.
4Probably a good thing he did a do-over. Someone, somewhere, someday would have found a way to make a big to-do over it.
I don't know much about Kennedy, but from what I hear lots of NYers will be happy about it.
5what a great way to start out a presidency.
6I'm glad they did it right. That way we don't hear iny whiners complaign about him not really being President, because of this.
7Hainin - My comment was a reaction to what I actually saw on Fox News. Particularly what Glenn Beck said on his program Tuesday night.
8I thought the redo was cute too. If at first you don't succeed...
9Not surprised that Caroline Kennedy has withdrawn. She's not too popular and with her uncle's health issues...
10people in my office are saying the do-over was stupid, etc, but it seems like a good idea to me. plus last night on msnbc they said a few other presidents have done the same thing.
11I think there must be two Fox Newses because I watch Fox News and I never see any of this stuff.
But then again, I don't rely on websites that take quotes out of context ala Media Matters et al.
13In another political climate perhaps a do-over would have been ridiculous, but better safe than sorry, and I'm happy that it will silence any naysayers.
As for Caroline Kennedy, I'm glad she withdrew.
14I'm glad he redid it. One less thing for the "he's not a citizen and he's seeekrit muslim!" nutbags to make false email forwards about.
And I love the phrase "abundance of caution." I'm going to exercise an abundance of caution and get some more coffee so I am alert.
15They're all laughing! Its obviously a joke! Geesh. People need to lighten up. Just because you don't fawn all over Obama or get a "chill up my leg" doesn't mean they hate him.
16Like I said, I had that channel on all day that day, they all joked about it, they all mentioned the conclusion of the noon rule.
Anyone who thinks this is an attack on Obama by Fox news is not being rational.
17It has happened three other times in our history. I think it was ridiculous that the redo had to be done in the first place! Roberts should not have messed it up!
18I thought the Obama birth certificate controversy and "I can see Russia from Alaska" were jokes when I first heard them - twice burned...
19I think it's a good thing he redid the oath. Just covering the bases! Nothing wrong with that, right?
20Just because he's laughing doesn't mean he doesn't mean it. Just like sometimes people say stuff here and add a little winky smiley or something to make it sound less harsh.
21And as I said on the other thread, why the heck didn't Roberts write it down?
22What will Fox News have to report on now!?
23It's a good thing Obama knows the constitution. It was very obvious that he knew the oath and Robets did not.
24I watched Fox News all day Tuesday day too, and Wednesday night as well actually. The funniest thing about watching Fox News was the scroll bar. It basically continued to repeat all of the William Ayers discourse over and over.
I just got an email saying he redid the oath in 'secret' so he could take it on his Quran instead of the Bible. Some people really believe all that whooey.
25I don't think he HAD to redo it. I think he CHOSE to redo it.
Whatever, I'm not going to argue about Fox News. If having one news organization that isn't in the tank for Obama is too much to handle then I just don't know what to say.
But they def. won't run out of stuff to report. I bet their ratings will get even higher as people search for facts and opposing arguments, not just a regurgitation of whatever he says and the declaration that it must be fact.
26TS- He just made a mistake! It wasn't sinister. If he wrote it down where would he put it? He was probably just nervous. The enormity of the moment would do that to anyone I think.
27I'm not saying it was sinister. I'm saying if I had to swear in the President, I'd have the oath written on a card, written on my hand, and probably written on the bottom of my shoe, just in case. I wouldn't rely on my memory in front of a flippity squillion people.
28Just don't tell me Fox News is fair, balanced, and unbiased. I'm fine with a conservative viewpoint and spin on news, if people want to watch it more power to them. I'm happy with my CNN and BBC.
29I think it was a surprise that the oath was messed up. Obviously it was by accident but it made for an interesting question that some people might ask. Just because one asks the question doesn't mean that they think its all bunk. I think asking questions is a good thing.
And maybe other people didn't get sick of the same broken record of "this is historic" blah blah x1 million, but after about hour 6 it gets to be a bit dull and something else to discuss even just for a few minutes would keep people awake I would think.
30Despite the little oath problem, which it was apparent Obama was the one prompting Roberts to do it right, I think President Obama is being very proactive in trying to do what he has promised, so YES I must agree CG the start of his Presidency has been very positive and impressive. I personally don't think an "oath" makes a President.
31I wouldn't say Fox is fair and balanced. I think they're fair-er and more balanced than most, but obv they aren't perfect and they have moments of absurdity.
32jazz, dont put words in my mouth. thanks.
33I guess when it comes to news its pick your bias! To left? To the right? Pick your poison!
34"But they def. won't run out of stuff to report. I bet their ratings will get even higher as people search for facts and opposing arguments, not just a regurgitation of whatever he says and the declaration that it must be fact"
And all this time I though Fox made up their facts to try to up their ratings.
hausfrau that IS news.
35John Roberts should be fired! Oh wait, its a lifetime appointment. Well, then he should sit the bench at the very least! Oh wait...
36CG I was just agreeing that President Obama has a "great way to start out a presidency"
37
38
39Piper that was good ~ although I didn't mean for the double post.
40Okay, I am so far from being an Obama Supporter it's not even funny, but even I think making him re-do the oath is utterly ridiculous.
41Jazz - I don't quite understand what you're saying. Taking the opinion of a President and declaring it fact is not news or else we'd see a lot less Bush haters!
42mydiadem - you said "Just don't tell me Fox News is fair, balanced, and unbiased. I'm fine with a conservative viewpoint and spin on news, if people want to watch it more power to them. I'm happy with my CNN and BBC"
I'm just asking here, but are you saying the other stations ARE unbiased?
43"Taking the opinion of a President and declaring it fact is not news or else we'd see a lot less Bush haters!"
44huh???
I would agree with Haus somewhat that every cable news station has some bias. I would say Fox is the most obvious, MSNBC being right behind, and I would say CNN and BBC are the least biased.
45It was Robert's first time to administer the oath. I imagine he was nervous. What's done is done. The legal guys just wanted Obama to redo the oath to err on the side of caution.
Coolidge and Arthur had to redo their oaths too.
46Thanks for saying that Mydiadem, because I thought at first you were saying that Fox was the only biased one, to which I would have cried foul. LOL
47I know many people have said this before me but I wanted to add my voice to the fray...I'm really not liking the new sugar layout. I would go as far as to say it blows.
48"so YES I must agree CG the start of his Presidency has been very positive and impressive"
what I said was "what a great way to start out a presidency" which was nothing in the way of positive or impressive
49Well I would argue that MSNBC is the most biased and it reflects in their dismal ratings. I don't think there are enough conservatives to give Fox News its ratings, so it must appeal to more people than just conservatives whereas you could postulate that since MSNBC has such bad ratings it must only appeal to a small segment, in this case the far left.
