I heard this quite a while ago. I heard something like they found his blood at the end of a sword so that he couldn't have used it to cut off his own ear? I don't know, this could all be totally made up, it doesn't really make a difference anymore.

from my boyfriend who loves Van Gogh's work after I showed him the article: not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised since they both were certifiably mad and the fact that they lived alone in the South of France spending hours painting doesn't surprise me that they may have come to blows. They had the epitome of love hate; Gauguin would criticize Van Gogh about his work and during his time there Van Gogh did not paint his best stuff (according to him), and he hated what he did there a felt he lacked real creativity at that time. Amazing he only lived to be 32 and only painted for like 4 or 5 years.
