Female Marine Recruits More Lax About Sex Than Civilians

Hoping to learn how to prevent unintended pregnancies from impacting combat readiness, the Marine Corps took a look at the sex lives of female Marines. The study revealed that female recruits had higher rates of the most common STDs (chlamydia and gonorrhea) and were less fond of using condoms than the general civilian population. The survey also revealed more lax attitudes toward mixing sex with alcohol among the new female Marines.

When you're in the armed forces, your sex life can impact the country's national security. Hoping to avoid losing Marines to unplanned pregnancy or illness, the Marine Corps includes sex ed in basic training. Each female recruit also has to have a 30-minute informal discussion about reproductive health with a senior drill instructor. That's got to be a little awkward — drop and give me birth control!

I am a female Marine and from my perspective you become a bit manly leaving boot camp. You most likely joined in the first place with a completely different mindset than civilian women. You can't compare civilian women to women in the Corps. You have females trained like men, no diversion from the male training at all. And if you were to try and reach a medical argument on this subject then everyone who is sexually active should know that athletes have a stronger and more abundant sexual drive than those who don't even exercise at all. So you have these women even after boot camp undergoing male training everyday in a male setting. OF COURSE you are going to have women with a stronger sexual drive. Not only that but focused women who don't care for a relationship. So you don't want commitment. And when you are sexually active period, you risk getting a disease. You especially risk getting a disease when you are sexually active with many. Females who DO have a history probably only match a male's sexual history upon joining the Marine Corps. The only problem is that they are females. Those that may think that I am defending or speaking myself can be contradicted. Pertaining to my situation, I have a high school sweetheart boyfriend: never cheated, never been cheated on.

well it DOES say right in the article "more than the general civilian population". So I'm assuming that's the group they're comparing it too...just a thought.Also, I'm not surprised. They'd get the same results polling a group of college women in comparison to the general population!!

i hope male recruits are also required to have a 30-minute informal discussion about reproductive health with a senior drill instructor. birth control isn't solely the responsibility of female marines.

Don't know why anyone is surprised by this. You're conditioned to take on a masculine attitude toward everything... including sex.
