Zadie Smith broke into the literary world when she was only 25 with the publication of White Teeth, a critical and commercial success. She followed it up with The Autograph Man and On Beauty, which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and won the 2006 Orange Prize for Fiction.
She's been teaching creative writing at Columbia University, but this year it was announced she'll be a full-time, tenured-track fiction professor at NYU in September 2010.
