    Farewell, Playgirl!

It's the end of an era, people — a hairy, sometimes overwaxed, and cheesy era of pics of nekkid men photographed supposedly for her pleasure. Alternately dubbed "the magazine for women," and then "entertainment for women," Playgirl is gone after 35 years! They say that in order to properly mourn something, you have to know what you've lost. Well, I hardly knew ye, Playgirl, but let's take a highly random walk down bohunk lane . . . All pictures from this source unless otherwise specified.

As for Lyle Waggoner... eh.. lol? Laughing out loud

And somewhere between photo 17 and 19, we left "Entertainment for Women" and right into the All Nude Christmas Elf Review for the Discerning Male" followed by...........ALAN THICKE (?!?!) and Widdle Davy Duchovny who just wants you to "Pick him up and change him".

    "For Women.."

    Riiight.

(Though bonus points must be awarded for Tyson Beckford. They redeemed themselves somewhat, I agree with you there. Rawr.)

I actually bought an issue for my DAD once.
He's a beatles fan and must have everything. Including the Paul McCartney article that was in one issue sevearl years ago.

My mom and I picked it up for him and I though it was the stupidest
thing ever. Some men should NOT take their clothes off for the camera. And these were the "hunky" guys.

Course you'll never see Playboy go out of business!

haha. i bought a playgirl issue on my 18th birthday at a gas station. ohhhh good times, good times. i think i flipped through it and then put it in my dresser drawer. i wanted to keep it for a souvenir from my birthday you know, but my mother found it and flipped out. "...this trash is in my house!" blah blah blah. i guess the little peen's made her angry and disappointed.

back in college, my dorm neighbor and i would have a monthly female chauvinist pig night: we'd drink beer, smoke swisher sweet cigars (which are awful), and laugh our way through the latest playgirl.

after our initial gawking, we'd cut out the pics we thought were the best and hang them on my "wall of men" (strategically covered, natch). wall of men was a favorite of every visitor to our dorm hall -- moms & grandmas included. good times. i'll miss ya, playgirl!

for the record, the best centerfold of all time was some guy named rocco. for the life of me, i have no clue how that poor guy could find pants to fit...

I used to use Playgirl for sketching references. Those dudes may have pretty boys, but still there were some that helped me out by studying their er anatomy lol. Bye Playgirl and thanks helping me with my sketch work.

Let's not kid ourselves. . .It was one of the worst-kept secrets in the magazine publishing industry that throughout its 35-year history, a significant proportion of Playgirl's readers were gay men. The editors of Playgirl tried just about anything and everything to drive them away, to no avail -- finally bowing to reality in 1990. By the turn of the millennium, it was fairly common knowledge that gay men had become a majority of Playgirl's readers -- costing it advertisers marketing their products to women and making it increasingly difficult for Playgirl to recruit heterosexual male models to pose for it.

u all r wrong about a lot of things. when playgirl first came out my first wife saw it from some friends of hers at work. that day she came in the door and the first words out of her mouth was about a magazine with nude men. she had to have it. after 2 years we divorced and my new girlfriend also said she got playgirl monthly. she looked forward to each new issue. she joked about the time playgirl had the full nude blow-up of a nude male that some friends put up on a bathroom door. she also bought the vcr tapes of nude men playgirl used make. also,in the late 70's or early 80's a young woman told me and some male friends that she bot playgirl magazine, esp. to see the pictures..way back then women weren't to see such things ..but things have changed..these r not the 50's..

    What!

There is no one to blame, but women. Women in general are still stuck in the 50's, or even further back. As far as I am concerned, if it has hot naked men....it is for me! Women spend so much money on make-up, and stupid magazines that just show you how to self-objectify yourself. I am a woman...I like men....thats it! I actually think the magazine was barely becoming what it should be, women are not hairless wonders, they shave....so why is it so bad for men to be hairless? I enjoy all the latest magazines, not the old ones...where they look more like natural geographic magazines chronicling the evolution of man.
