Wow. The world is still buzzing over Governor Eliot Spitzer's shocking announcement yesterday ties to a prostitution ring. Identified in wiretapping records as "Client #9," speculation abounds as to whether he will resign. Waiting for actual news has produced some pretty entertaining stories in the meantime.

From a roundup slideshow of "Faces of Shame" throughout history courtesy of AM New York, to this internet investigation that shows the Governor's website may already be listing the Lieutenant Governor as the man in charge, to a race by the tabloids to publish the most amusing/scandalous headlines regarding the situation, it's a full-fledged media circus. Wall-to-wall coverage, as the kids say. The New York State minority leader just called for Spitzer's resignation on CNN. Should Spitzer heed the call?

I love a good prostitution ring scandal in government. I can't help myself.
1I think he should resign, but because he did something illegal, not because he had an affair.
2I do love a good scandal! If your going to take a firm stance against something maybe you shouldn't take part in what it is that you're saying you're against!
I frankly don't care about the fact that he paid for sex, that's between him and his wife. If he doesn't give up office it will turn into a whole thing that gets dragged out forever.
3This is gonna be good.
4I feel really bad for his wife though.
I would be so pissed and embarrassed.
hypocrite!
5What is with Republicans and not resigning?
6He kinda looks like a monkey in that picture.
Whether or not I think prostitution laws are pointless, they are laws. He broke them and he's a government official. AND he got caught. I'm thinking he's done.
7He belongs in jail with the rest of the hookers.
8He spent his time in office trying to take down prostitution rings- and then gets caught patronizing one?
I'll wait for the evidence, but if there's concrete proof he did this, then he should definitely resign. As it is, it doesn't look good for him.
9Thats the look of a man who isnt going to be getting any, paid for, free or marital for a long long time.
10Yes, he should absolutely resign! He broke the law. Moreover, he broke the law while in office, using tax payer time to do it. I don't think there's any question about the right thing to do in this case. But then again, if he was concerned about the right thing to do, he wouldn't be in this mess in the first place!
Democrat or Republican, our politicians do like to get into trouble!
11Rac - for the SECOND time... he is a democrat!
but who cares? he broke the law, committed a felony... see ya!
12Ack. It's a FELONY! Regardless of whether you think it's a stupid felony or not, if it were any regular citizen who had done it, they would be in some serious trouble. Governor or not, he is not above the law, and he should not be leading NY. Plus, this isn't exactly his first incident since "day one." For crying out loud, Troopergate hasn't even been resolved yet!
Our budget is due on April 1st, and if he drags this out, it's going to screw up everything. There is way too much evidence, and he just needs to get this over with.
13That pucker would be a permanent look if I were his wife. Because his teeth would be knocked the ____ out. What a creep.
14Everyone breaks the law sometime or another.
15"I think he should resign, but because he did something illegal, not because he had an affair."
I agree. And as Secrethoughts pointed out...it isn't just ilegal, it is a felony. He arranged to have her transported across state lines (because there aren't enough hookers in NY;)) That is not just an accidental mistake, that is a huge error.
Piper and Caterpillargirl, you are hysterical!!!!
Did anyone else find it funny that she was reading over his shoulder when he gave his speech? I couldn't take my eyes off of her reading his script!
16YES. I do not want this man still in office. He broke the law and he used to be the person enforcing it. Jeez. I don't want to live in NY under the control of this bastard. I have friends who know his wife and his daughter, and it's absolutely horrible for them.
17Oh lord who ever chose that photo, you are just wrong. LOL! Dude looks like Cornelius from Planet of the Apes. All I have to say is he clearly needs to step down and take some jail time. His holier than thou rampage as Attorney General and now Governor has totally set him up for a shuteless sky dive.
18Resign! I dislike him so much and he should pay for this crime; any non-political aka "average joe" would be in jail for this, why shouldn't he pay the price?
19P.S. I forgot to mention how sorry I feel for his wife; she doesn't deserve to be going through this. She is too good for him and wish her the best.
