The Dos and Don'ts of Attending a Super Bowl Party

Super Bowl Sunday is a national holiday for sports' lovers, but if you're not a football connoisseur, you can still reap the benefits of a fun Super Bowl party! Check out my dos and don'ts before spending this weekend with die-hard fans, and please feel free to add you own in the comment section below.

Don't

Do know what teams are playing.
Do root for your team if you're a fan — don't be shy!
Do enter the betting pool — even if you don't know the facts, you could end up victorious.
Do throw the football with the boys at halftime — it'll help burn off some of the calories you've consumed!
Do be understanding if your significant other's team loses — some guys take a loss very seriously.
Do look forward to the commercials.

Don't talk during a big play, or any intense moment in the game for that matter.
Don't overdress for a Super Bowl party.
Don't comment on the players "outfits."
Don't walk in front of the TV.

How about tips on not dying of boredom if your S.O. drags you to a superbowl party with all of his friends and you hate football and aren't crazy about his friends, either?? I'm trying to take it as a compliment that he wants me there with him, but I still don't wanna go!

It's like a bunch of wanna-be football players just trying to get as close as they can to the game. I don't understand why people would want to be a fan of a sport they don't even play. Why don't they just go out and actually get on a sports team of some kind, then it makes sense to support that team.

My biggest don't? DON"T COMPLAIN HOW MUCH WEIGHT/HOW FAT YOU'LL GET BY EATING SUPERBOWL FOOD. No one cares, and no, no one really wants to know how many calories they are scarfing down on game day. I don't mind if you pass on the hot wings, but please don't tell me how many caolries are in eahc one if i don't ask and please please please don't loudly mumble how big your butt or hips are going to get.

I think it is a great opportunity to hit a chick flick and do some shopping with friends. I like football, but couldn't care less about who is playing in the Super Bowl this year. The majority of the time, the game itself is boring. I say take advantage of a Sunday to do what you want....believe me, your guy won't miss you during those precious three hours.

I get you're not interested if you're not a football fan, but if you have three brain cells, you should already know everything listed."Do root for your team if you're a fan - don't be shy" -- you're NOT a fan if you don't go all out and support your team. Just because I'm a girl I'm supposed to sit there and golf clap when Roethlisberger throws a touchdown, because it's improper for me to stand up and yell?"Some guys take a loss very seriously" -- what a gender discriminatory statement. Is this 1940? Some WOMEN also take a loss very seriously, too. I'm a bigger football fan than my husband, and he LOVES football."Don't comment on the players *outfits*" -- Are girls really dumb enough to do this at an actual party? If you gals don't like going to the Super Bowl parties, why not take this opportunity to do your own thing? Get other uninterested gals (like the wives/gfs of the guys who are getting together) and do something that you would enjoy, like a day of shopping or pampering.

My bf played football in HS and playes Madden and loves and breathes it he. I really don't too much care for it but he will be dragging me to a gathering with him and his friends. (YaY me) *sacrasm*

I don't care for most sports or football but I kind of always have a great time at superbowl parties. I just see it as another excuse to eat dips and drink beer and mingle. :)

I'll be at the Superbowl in Tampa on Sunday. I'm leaving tomorrow night. One of my favorite perks of my jobs, I get to go to all Finals for free, but I'm with Deidre, the college bowls are SOOOOO much better than the professional ones. The crowd and the energy level around them are just ridiculous and you get to me some of the craziest fans.

I love college ball, but could care less about the pros. So rather than pretend to care for yet another year, I've decided on a my new Do: I'm going hiking with a couple of friends who also don't care. We'll grab supper afterwards at a near-by diner to relax after all that exercise. Best of all, the park and diner will be way less crowded than on a typical Sunday!

How about... if you don't like football, then don't bother. Just like I wouldn't expect someone to force me to watch the Oscars, I'd never force the Super Bowl on someone.
