Do You Prefer a Simple Life, or Life in the Fast Lane?

Today we got a peek into the simple life of Johnny Depp thanks to an interview he did with French magazine VSD. Johnny says he lives a "truly simple existence" in the south of France with his partner Vanessa Paradis and their children. Here are some of my favorite quotes:

"When I wake up I go look at my garden. I go see if my vegetables are growing, if certain flowers have started to bloom."
"With Vanessa and the kids, we live in a sort of little village in the south and I have the impression of being in paradise. It's a property of about 30 acres and you know what I do there? Absolutely nothing."
"Where will we go for a walk? Should we eat at the house with them or maybe go for a picnic? These are the problems we face there."

While I agree that this sounds like absolute paradise, some people might get a little bored. I know friends who just can't sit still on vacation, so the idea of living a slow, simple life, rather than a fast-paced city life probably wouldn't appeal to them. Where do you stand?

Definitely simple :)I was a wild child in my early to mid teens, but that kind of "fun" gets boring really fast (in my opinion). Now I enjoy just sitting on my porch looking at the mountains and going on hikes and drinking lots of yummy tea ;) I still like to cut loose every once and awhile (who doesn't?), but I'm pretty tame.

Although I lean more towards the "simple" life, I need a mixture of both. I think it's refreshing to live in the fast lane for a while, and then go back into your own little "simple" world. :)

I've spent a lot of summers with relatives in the country. It is peaceful and beautiful, but it can be a bit boring. If your life is really hectic, then retreating somewhere like that would be ideal. I'd like to have a balance between the two. It would be nice to live in a quiet, laid back area that's not too far away from everything. I wouldn't want to drive an hour just to go to the grocery store.

Simple life all the way. I would LOVE to live in the country on several acres... unfortunately, the hubbies job type just doesn't allow that without a very long commute.

My dream is to live on a little plot of land with a little house and a big wrap around porch. Somewhere my son can play outside without me worrying about anything. That would be awesome.

Any time in my life that I've lived "in the fast lane" ends up being a little anxiety-causing and nerve-racking. Mornings that you wake up and don't remember the events that happened the night before are always extremely scary and have given me big reality checks. Just because you're not living life in the fast lane, does not mean you aren't adventurous and having fun! Just do it in a mostly safe manner.

A little bir of both. I need a little stress or I'll feel like I've done nothing all day. But at the end of the day I like to take a stroll through the garden and just relax with a big cup of cappuccino on my porch.
