Do You Kiss and Tell?

My TMI-alarm went off like crazy this week when I heard David Arquette share intimate details with Howard Stern. You just don't discuss the last time you had sex with your wife, and whom you've had sex with since, on national radio. Most everyone agrees that such disclosure clearly crosses the line, but what about when you're talking to an audience of friends? When it comes to your sex life, do you dish the details to close friends?

I've only shared really intimate details with one friend, she's my best friend (married) and my secrets are safe with her (and visa versa). I admit to sharing a bit online, but only to benefit others (let other women know that I've gone through what they're going through, stuff like that).

I'm like the only one of my friends who doesn't kiss and tell! They all seem to love pretending life is an episode of Sex and the City and they sit around dishing it all out, but in my opinion, what I do, when I do it, and who I do it with is no one's business but my own. A little mystery never killed anyone.

It's true that most of us really wouldn't care to ask David about the details of his sex life however if it's offered asked for or not the titillation of that information drives a social discussion which is a benefit monetarily otherwise we wouldn't be spoon fed this gratuitous information. I have a confidant or two which I will discuss my sex life with for the benefit of their advise and wisdom or just to laugh at something funny that happened. I know people whose sex lives are an open book details unbridled and they thrive on the social titillation they cause in a group. It's like a drug to them, lol, I just think it's ridiculous.

Unless they ask, I don't say anything. I don't want to be creepy. I think I'm pretty good at judging how much people really want to hear.

I think in general, PG terms it's fine. But he absolutely crossed a line.

if somebody asks me, i'll share. even then, i don't go into detail. but i never just share it randomly. i never understood why people think other people care about their sex lives.

I used to when I was younger. I would discuss every detail of how, when and where with my friends, not even only the closest friends. But I was 18/19 back then and sex was still new to me ;) Now, I just don't talk about it. I'm very private and it's just nobody's business. I would be very disappointed if he shared intimate details of our relationship with others and he deserves the same kind of respect.

I feel really protective of my sexuality. I know that some people think it's great to hear the juicy details of their friends sexual exploits, but to me it's always seemed disrespectful to the person you are sharing intimacy with. I think it's nice to have that secret between the two of you. I'm very free with my husband and we're both very satisfied with our relationship, and that's about all anyone needs to know.

I really hate when people share intimate details of their sex lives, with friends or anywhere else. If you're having trouble with a serious issue and for some reason can't work it out with your partner, some talking with a friend is okay. Otherwise, I think you demean and risk betraying the relationship if you use it as fodder for conversation.
