Do You Have "Decoration" Towels?

We've all encountered them — fancy towels meticulously rolled up in baskets on someone's bathroom counter or hanging beside a shower. They're nice and all, but a little too nice to actually use, so we end up wiping our hands dry on our own clothing, wondering why the hell anyone would bother placing "off-limits" towels near a fully functional sink. Marissa below made the mistake of using the aesthetically charming towels in her bathroom and received a passive-aggressive word of warning from her roomie. (For more on Marissa's story, click here.) So what's your take: Do you have "decoration" towels hanging in your bathroom?

My mom called them "guest towels" and they were for guests. I keep some too but not in the stupid bathroom. When I have friends come to visit, I take them out of the closet and fold them up on the bed with some little cute stuff like mini Burt's Bees soaps or something. Hanging them out when you have a roommate and then leaving little signs when she uses them? Ugh, reminds me of some of the **tchy idiots I had for college roommates. Save that level of pretension for when you have your OWN home, honey. And better towels. And a hanger that does not allow them to touch the floor. Ew.

I don't have any decoration towels. My hubby's Grandmother always kept some in her bathrooms though but guests were allowed to use them :-)

Not only do I not have decoration towels, but my regular towels are all old and mismatched. You'd think I was a college student, not a self-sufficient woman in her thirties. :oops:

Geez, you'd think the girl who wastes her time telling someone they're not to be used would use the correct word to describe the towel! Picture her actually saying, "Now don't you go touchin' the decOration towels now, them there fer decOration only!"

Well, for one, Marissa's towels are ugly. They are askew and the top one has a thread hanging from it. =) <---passive-aggressive smile. For two, I have both. I have decoration towels rolled up in a dark wicker basket for show....all from Pier One and super cute....but they are on top of a very high shelf for display purposes only! (Yay $60 at Pier One and some DIY and my guest bath looks passable!) Then I have some regular colored towels and a few with an embroidered design on them that match the theme, but I use them and everyone else should too! I think if you like a design so much you're afraid of the over-washing/getting used look that you should just buy a few sets. But really, it's fun to go get new hand towels every few years in your theme...they come out with new stuff all the time...don't want to live in the past! And if money is an issue (always is) buy solid colors in white or cream so you don't date yourself and only use those for company. *Off to read about Marissa now* =)

Um...I do have decoration towels. But I also set out towels that people can actually use. It doesn't work with my husband and kids however. They still use the decoration ones anyway.

I have these pretty sage green towels with a flower design on them hanging in my bathroom. They're definitely more on the decoration side of things, but what's the point of having them if you're not going to use them?
