Do Tell: Are You Affectionate in Front of the Family?

No matter how old I get, I’m old-fashioned when it comes to PDA in front of my parents. When I’m with the family, any excessive touching becomes unnecessary and kissing is kept brief and subtle. I’m not actually sure if this is something that my parents notice, but I guess it’s just my own thing. However, I realize not everyone’s quite as traditional as me. Do tell: Are you like me when it comes to family-time PDA? Or do you have no qualms about a little affection when your parents are around?

In public my Boyfriend and I are always all over each other.. .but WITH THE FAMILY/PARENTS we keep in to a minimum, barely show any affection. I come from a strict family and PDA is unaccepted and viewed as quite dirty. His family is religious and I think PDA is kept at a minimum. Hugging I guess is okay and kisses on cheeks. In my house, wow if he was to even put his arm around me,I think my father would FLIP and maybe kill him! lolbasically, around the fam we keep in simple and minimum. We've learned to keep that to ourselves and do it in our own alone time =)

I was going to say the same thing Kimpossible said. I come from an affectionate family so it doesn't bother my parents. My man also comes from an affectionate family so it doesn't bother his family either. I will say he is a little more shy around my parents though.

Never ever ever. I come from a very non-affectionate family, and I always felt uncomfortable when my ex decided to kiss me or cuddle on me in front of either of our parents.

Yes...not too much though.A quick kiss or hug, maybe some hand holding, but never, ever to the point where we have made anyone else uncomfortable.....

My boyfriend always wants to hold hands and kiss me when we're in front of his family. Though I'm affectionate, I'm uncomfortable with the PDAs, especially in front of his teenage sister. It's a HUGE bone of contention in our relationship.

We kiss, cuddle, hug, etc.. but not hard core make out or anything. That'd just be awkward!

I like holding hands and cuddling up and of course the occasional hug and kiss but definitely no making out or anything of that nature. My MIL thought it was so cute when I gave my hubby a kiss on the cheek when we were dating.

Holding hands, arms around each other etc, maybe a kiss on the cheek. But I refrain from doing anything that would make anyone around me feel uncomfortable.

It's interesting, I don't mind holding hands out in public and doing a little kissing and cuddling, but in front of my family I can't do anything!! It's as if I feel like I am going to get in trouble or something (and I am 23)!!! I may have grown into a woman, but in the presence of my parents I still feel a little immature. Will that feeling ever go away?! My boyfriend tries to kiss me or cuddle with me in front of his parents because he doesn't care, but I always tell him to stop because once again, I feel self- conscious. Yet in front of strangers, or even friends, it doesn't bother me at all. Interesting, huh?

Nope! We're so not affectionate that when we were first dating my mother actually wondered if he was secretly gay. Insensitive but funny.

My parents are more conservative, so hubby and I rarely show PDA--kissing, holding hands, saying 'I love you' or etc (My parents aren't comfortable with the-I-Love-You-thing too).In front of his parents, who aren't as conservative, we're not as restricted, while we don't make out, we just do our usual holding hands and kissing and basically just be very affectionate toward one another.

My boyfriend and I are really conservative. We hug and hold hands, but kissing is only done when their backs are turned or we are away. We sit closely, and once, his dad caught me straddling him and kissing. I almost fainted, even though it was in my boyfriend's room.

No excessive PDA (heavy make-out sessions and the like) in front of my family allowed or anywhere public for that matter. Hugging, subtle kissing, cuddling, tickling is fine.

Oh and my mother in law commented after her last visit how nice it was to see us being affectionate with eachother so much, that it was obvious we love, respect and cherish eachother. That's saying something coming from her - like I said she's not that way, she didn't grow up in that kind of house.

We're both really into PDA actually but my parents are really uncomfortable with it so we have to work really hard to keep it at a minimal at family functions.

We have no problem with PDA in front of family. I grew up in a very loving, huggy, kissy family. My parents were always holding hands, smooching, hugging in front of us (appropriately mind you). So to me it's only natural. My hubby while he did not grow up in that kind of environment is very affectionate and is not afraid to show it in front of family. We cuddle on the couch, we slow dance in the kitchen, etc.

I'm def. like you. I can't even peck my bf a little kiss or hold hands. I still feel like a little kid and I'll get in trouble even though I'm 23. haha :p

My boyfriend is certainly the more conservative one when it comes to PDA in front of anyone, including my parents, but we've both loosened up a lot in the two years since we started dating. We kiss [goodbye, brief, etc.] in front of my parents every now and again, although we try and go around a corner or something if possible, just to be respectful. If we're sitting in the den watching television with my folks, we almost always sit on the couch together, usually him sitting with his feet up and me leaning on his legs or something to that effect. My parents don't even look or think twice. I guess they think it's second-nature for us to have some sort of physical contact. As long as we're not getting down and dirty on the floor in front of them, I think they're alright ...
