Do Tell: What's your Worst Father/Boyfriend Meeting Story?

My friend PartySugar was just telling me about the first time her dad met her very first boyfriend. Before he was allowed to drive away with daddy's little girl, Party's Papa took him outside and to test his character and ability, made him change the tire on his car, there then, right there! The deal was if he was successful, he was free to take Miss Party out on their date! While I happen to think that story is absolutely hilarious (even a wee bit practical) she was beyond mortified at her father's over-protective behavior. So ladies, what's your worst father/boyfriend meeting story?

Not mine, but my sister's: She was going to her first homecoming dance, and when my mom answered the door was shocked that Date-boy was spiky haired and had multiple piercings: ears, nose, eyebrow (um, midwestern, conservative parents... dad is a cop) So While he's waiting for my sister to finsh getting ready, Dad pulls out all the guns and proceeds cleaning them. Date-boy's eyes widen, he squirms uncomfortably... Dad says nothing until they are leaving, at which point he proceeds to load a rifle, shacking it for added drama, grunts out very slowly "She is home by Ten." I think my sister was back by like, 9:15 that night!

My father, loved to give my boy friend nicknames. “Skinny Puppy” for my goth boy “Ricky Ricardo” for my Cuban boy “Jarhead” for the marine “Peon” for Leon And he would call them these names to their faces. He also showed them all his guns, his tattoos, told them about killing people in Vietnam…….My husband , who my father first met and glared at his purple hair, is the only guy he never nicknamed and who he bonded with….Fathers DO know best!

mine isn't with my dad, my dad's not near as protective as my brother (who's my best friend) and when i started dating his roomate (who had just moved next door) my brother was FURIOUS. i thought he was gonna beat the crap out of my boyfriend! luckily his other room mate calmed him down and he just ignored it and he wouldn't let us sit together much after he found out....

ok, this is my sisters story but i will tell...... we were at my sisters high school graduation and we see this super tall guy walking towards us. he was 6'8!! so my dad (being 5'9) says to him- "it looks like you've done a couple slam dunks in your life" and the guy says "it looks like you've played a bunch of miniture golf". Later to find out that this was my sisters new boyfriend! well, that set the tone for the next 14 years! they are happily married and my dad and him have a great relationship :)

I have two: 1. I finally let my high school bf of two years come over for dinner. He had met my family before, but we had never eaten dinner together. We had a tradition in our family that at dinner, in order to spark conversation, we would all go around the table and share our “favorite thing” of the day. It never occurred to me that my dad would ask my bf this questions or I may have been more prepared. But sure enough, we say grace and then my dad looks to my bf and says, “So, (insert bf’s name), what was your favorite thing today.” I was mortified. My bf looked at my dad and said, “What, are you kidding?” The next few moments were pretty awkward. My dad never forgot that this guy didn’t play his “game.” Now I think it’s hilarious. 2. You think I would have learned my lesson, yes? Well, I guess I’m just not that smart! So I let my next serious bf come over for dinner, we were both in college. This story requires a little background, so here goes: One of my favorite “foods” (if you can call it that) is whipped cream. So my parents go to Europe and they stumble across this thing called “Mr. Whippy” which is basically a more solid form of whipped cream in an ice cream cone. They come home and don’t tell me about this part of their trip. Okay, back to the story. We eat dinner and everything is fine. I have prepared myself for the favorite thing today question and my guy passes with flying colors, answering the question without missing a beat. Then my mom and I clear the table and she says it’s time for dessert. Now all day she’s been saying how dessert is a surprise and I’m like cool because I’m thinking it’s going to be something spectacular, my mom is really great with desserts. So I sit back down at the table and she brings in a can of whipped cream and ice cream cones. I’m like what the heck is this? She says, “Oh, we’re having Mr. Whippy for dessert.” My face turned bright red – like I cannot believe what my bf is thinking. There was some discomfort but basically we got over it and ate the stuff while my parents tell us the story, and now my bf knows how cultured my sweet tooth is. He’s my hubby now, it’s been 8 years, so I guess it wasn’t that bad. And now it’s a great story to tell and we laugh every time! Moral of the story: Don’t invite boyfriends home for dinner. And if you do and you get embarrassed, realize that one day it won’t be that big of a deal. P.S. I’ve embarrassed myself more. One time, the four of us, my parents and me and my honey – we weren’t married yet – went to Tahoe to a place that I had been before and they had not. So the parking spaces were labeled alphabetically, and our space was space G. So my dad is driving and I’m in the back seat directing him (turn left into this driveway, etc.), and I say, now pull into the G spot. OMG, my face turned so red. It felt like it was burning. They were all laughing and then were sure to inform our friends who came over for dinner that night!

I was in high school and my boyfriend was over doing homework. Well my stepdad walks in a strikes up an innocent conversation. Everything was going great until he pulled a drug test cup out and asked for a sample. Not that he thought he was doing drugs but just wanted to joke around. Needless to say he was freaked out and bolted!

oh god. my boyfriend-father meeting was HUMILIATING. My dad gave "the talk"...for 3 hours...and at one point it got to a screaming match between them! I was mortified as I saw in the other room talking with my mom while they "bonded". I was convinced I was going to be leaving without a boyfriend =/LOLI felt so bad for my bf when we left...but proud of him. He earned the respect he needed from my dad in order to be "worthy" to date me lol. =)
