Do Tell: What's Your Favorite Halloween Memory?

Gearing up for Halloween is always fun, but the holiday has a whole new meaning when you're a child. My brother and I would be excited for weeks for our yearly routine: we'd rush home from school, have an early dinner with the family, get dressed in our costumes, and head out with my parents' best friends and their kids to go trick or treating in our neighborhood, come home, and dump all our candy out in the foyer and trade for our favorite kinds, mine being Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, of course!

Thanks for letting me take a trip down memory lane, so ladies, your turn, do tell, what are your favorite childhood memories about Halloween?

Halloween is so much fun! I miss those days of enjoying it as a kid! You never had to worry about wearing a slutty or demure costume then!

The excitement of getting ready. And also the fact that we were able to make costumes out of whatever we had at home, without having to go spend a lot of money at a fancy costume store.

I grew up in a small town where the houses were too far apart for efficient trick or treating. After supper on Halloween, we would get into our costumes and the school bus would come around and take us back to school for a party, complete with homemade treats our moms had sent ahead with us that morning. (Our mom always did popcorn balls made with corn syrup - we'd never feed that to our kids nowadays!) It was always a really strange sensation, getting on the bus in the dark, and not being able to recognize anyone! The teachers were always in costume as well, and always in a good mood.

I've always been fustrated because in France we don't do Halloween the way you do it. We see it on TV shows and movies and it look awsome, but we never really do "trick or treat" and else. In the late 90's there was an attempt to bring Halloween to France but it failed...But this year, well I live in New Zealand now, I had the chance for the first time to attend my first Halloween Party ever. A real one with everybody dressed up, and with fun candies and Halloween treats. I was dressed as a mob and partner as an "old" white iPod Shuffle. That was fun!

I have two distinct memories. The first one is one year my older brother was a blind man and I was his seeing eye dog. I think it was the year I went into glasses. The second one is the year I was the devil and we painted my face red, but at the end of the night, we couldn't get the red paint off! No matter how hard we scrubbed! It literally took days to get it all off.

My brother, sister and I used to map out our route to maximize our trick or treating. The neighborhood across the road was done in the afternoon because they gave out the big candy bars there but if you went too late they ran out. Then we'd start on the outer streets of our neighborhood and work our way in. We carried pillow cases because they held the most candy. Also, my neighborhood had a parade every year the Saturday before Halloween and everyone wore their costumes. I went as Morticia Adams one year and this guy Billy I'd liked but never talked to came up to me and said 'Tish, that's French' - and kissed up my arm. I was in seventh heaven. :)

my favorite halloween memory: the first time my mother let my older sister supervise all the younger girls (three of us) instead of her, we all felt so grown up and Free! My sister let us just go wild, she even brought toilet paper to "trick" the houses that werent giving out candy. It was always so awesome to have a sister 10 years older than i was. I was a Mosquito that year- Black stockings, black Leotard, Hair tucked up in a black stocking cap, and my mom made a huge stinger out of tin foil to put on my nose and i wore deely-boppers. we always made our costumes. those are the best!

So cute Dear. My favorite Halloween memory was dressing up at Britney Spears. Being able to wear sneakers to a club was super comfortable and so much fun!

Listening to 'Thriller' playing sooo loud on the stereo in our dark, candle-filled house. Making the kids put their hands into a bowl of spaghetti and telling them it's brains.

the years my town had to 'cancel' halloween because there was too much ice and snow (this happened twice) and then the years where my costume was so hot and my mom escorted me in a t-shirt and shorts! i also loved the day we got to dress up at school.

I have two. One year I went as a cat with a black unitard complete with cat ears and a furry tail. I ended up being very upset that Halloween because somehow my tail got lost during the trick-o-treat candy gathering night! :*( I still miss that tail. The other one is me going as a witch...it's the only visible one I can remember because I have tons of pictures when I can see me going as a witch, and my sister going as Minnie Mouse.

Growing up I was a Jehovah's Witness and didn't celebrate holidays but now that I'm older and my kids celebrate, my favorite memory is my son and daughters first halloween together. He was Batman and she was the devil. He was so excited and jumping around and could barely contain himself and my daughter just kept looking at him annoyed like, it was hilarious.

However, the most memorable Halloween was the last year I went trick or treating. My dad temporarily adjusted his dress blues for me to wear as my costume. I was honored to be able to wear something so special and to explain to everyone the significance when they commented on it.

I think honestly it was the year my folks got divorced. I was around 8-9 and my elementary school had a halloween parade down the street with all the little kids and my dad came early in the morning with my genie costume and watched me. I dont have any pics from it, but I can still remember the classroom and how my dad was almost the only guy in a room full of moms :)

My mother and grandmother would get together and think of a way to scare my sister and I. so, when my mom would drive us over to her house to Trick or Treat, she's have some incredibly creative scare tactic planned. It was great.

Honstly they were all pretty amazing growing up. My mother always decked out my brother, sister and I in the best costumes and the best gorey makeup-we all liked to go all out. My parents always decked out the house and would take us trick or treating till our legs fell off, we would end up with pounds of candy and we loved it. I miss those days!

Well, not favorite...but when I was little my mother dressed me, my sister, and my brother as a Toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss (respectively). The whole goal of the costume was to send it to our dentist so we could put it on his wall!

My next door neighbor would make personalized goody bags for all of the neighborhood kids.. these adorable paper bags with pumpkins on them and our names in block letters across the top. And we would walk to my dad's best friend's house and he would give us around 5 full-sized candybars (Halloween jackpot!).
