Do Tell: What's the Best Quality to Have in a Friend?

Good friends are true gems. I have always held my friendships near and dear to my heart, as if they were family, but I know I am one of the lucky ones to have such treasured people in my life. Friendship means something different to everyone, so ladies, do tell, what do you look for in a friend? What do you think are the most important qualities for a friend to posses?

someone whom you can feel comfortable with and the two of you can chat for hours, and hours, even though there're some moments of silence in between. yet, these moments of silence do not constitute awkwardness or the like. a friendship as such has probably reached a very high level of maturity, and this includes mutual understanding, loyalty, and the genuine concern for each other. and of course, fun-loving as well, for we all need a bit of fun from our atrociously hard days, no?

My biggest pet peeve is when people are not genuine, so I think that is a really important quality to have in a friend, and vice versa, to be genuine yourself to your friends. I cannot stand when people are fake, two-faced, or always putting on a facade, so being genuine and real is extremely important in my opinion.

Honestly and loyality are most important to me. (If they're not funny and nice then we wouldnt be friends in the 1st place)I need my friends to be honest with me, especially when I asking for advice. I dont want them to take side with me automatically just because we're friends. I need them to tell me, "Ok, Martini, you were wrong..."Its also important for my friends to be loyal. I dont want them going out with my ex's or vis versa. I dont want them talking about me behind my back, if I did something eff'd up then let me know. Thankfully, I have GREAT close friends, so I have nothing to worry about.

Loyalty is first and foremost. If I find out someone is disloyal to me, I don't get mad but I lose all interest in that person. I just can't help it. After that, honesty, warmth, sense of humor are all good qualities that my friends have.

Pretty much what everyone has already posted. I would add that a friend should know when to speak up and when to be quiet. A good friend knows your history and can decifer who your stories are about so you don't have to say "Aunt Nancy" for seven years. :) A friend is someone who can make you a priority in their life even if they don't see you every week or month. Friends can agree to disagree, but yet share similar values and thoughts.
