Do Tell: What Was Your First Experience With a Bra Like?

After reading your great comments on my post last week about first periods, I got inspired by Nancita to ask another personal question — what was your first bra experience like?

Puberty happens at different times for all of us, but whether you were an early or late bloomer, this right of passage into womanhood is definitely another memorable adventure we've all experienced. So ladies, do tell, what was it like when you bought your first bra?

I got my first bra lyk when I was 11, I guess u can't really call it a bra since it was a training one. But I got my first bra with cups when I was 13 or 14. I hated them at first but now I lyk buying them especially ones with cute designs on them. Right now im 16 and wear a 34B. :)

I got my first bra today I'm 11 but I am soooo flat it's not normal! Me and my mum went shopping to town and we went in primark I was looking at these cool soxs but my mum was at the rack next to me looking at the bras. For a few months I was thinking that I wanted one cos all my friends had one and It was 'cool'. My mum then picked one up with matching undiesand said this is nice I was dead embarrassed cos I Neva talk to my mum about stuff like that. But I said I liked the undies thinking yipppeee my first bra. :( but then wen we bought it and took it home itried it onand the preasure on my cheast was quite un comphy but iwore it for a little while I was really embarrased cosmy mum came in shouting guess wat she's got to my dad and brother and embarrasing me it was dreadful. I would liketo wear w bra but I have a big fear of growing up and wanting to be with my mum through things and stuff like that and it makes me feel upsetwhen I think of growing up, getting a bra, starting periods and stuff like that I'm just scared :( I thought I'd just tell you that for no reason that's my experience :'(

I started with crop tops at 10ish, and first real bra at 12. I loved it (: So comfy, no underwires. I remember being really hyper & jumping everywhere to test it and stuff (: Stupid but aaahh loved it! Today i'm a sexy C, I love my boobs, they're awesome (:

I started off with crop tops, and had a bit of a nightmare time with those. Comfy and all but they showed something terrible under my school uniform. My first real bra wasn't so bad, but we had to buy another one every few months because I was a fast grower!

I had a training bra (I still wonder what the hell we were training for) and I remember putting it on in the 4th grade when I went to Disney World with my dad and stepmom.

I went to my mother calmly and rationally and asked her if she would buy me a bra because I felt out of place with all the other girls in my fourth grade class. She said absolutely and we got this god-awful sports bra that I wore under spaghetti strapped tank tops so you could see the entire bra, practically. I looked ridiculous, but I felt mature and proud, so I guess that's what mattered. ;) I hardly ever wear those suckers anymore unless I have to-:(

I had to start wearing one in third grade. I remember picking one out with my mom. She was a lot more enthusiastic than I was, that's for sure. When I told my friends that I had one, they all wanted to see it, so I'd show it to them in the bathroom at school and they all told me how lucky I was, lol. I never really gave the whole thing too much thought either way...I just figured it was another new piece of underwear I had to wear.

I had to wear one in 4th or 5th grade and I HATED it, but my mom forced it. I'm still not a big fan of them but being a 44D, I can't get away with not wearing one.

I always loved them. I had those cute matching pants and halter type tops when I was about 6 onward, but I didn't start wearing a proper bra til I was about 10 or 11, and then I wore one every day. I was fairly well developed so I needed them. Today I'm a 8FF, so bras are a lot less fun and exciting to go shopping for, haha!

I really don't remember. I want to say I was 14 or 15. And it was pointless because I was so flat. I was flat until I was 17 and then popped into a C cup overnight. I've hated wearing bras ever since.

I didn't really care about wearing a bra. I was probably in the 5th or 6th grade when I got my first one. It was pretty much a training bra to wear because I got a kinda see through shirt that was incredibly cute. I didn't wear the shirt a lot though now that I think of it. Anyway, I love the bras I have now and wish I more cute ones. I'm always showing off my bra in school and/or comparing it to the other girls'.

I got my first training bra about a year before I started my period (about 4th grade), and then when I hit 7th grade I bloomed into a B. I don't really count training bras as a real bra because they never felt like they did anything and were INCREDIBLY itchy. They weren't holding anything up or in place, so when I finally got my B-cup sized bra, I really felt like they were a practical piece of underwear.

I wore sports bras because my mom always said "why do you need a training bra...just WHAT are you trining them to do?!" When I hit puberty I went from flat to a D in about a year. lol, which required me to get underwire.

I started wearing a bra in fifth grade but would forget and realize in the middle of class (when it got cold). One day my step mom yelled at me for not wearing my bra and I yelled at her, "Why do I have to wear it anyways!?" She just walked out of the bedroom silent and in shock.

I think I started wearing training bras when I was 10/11. Probably real bras at 13/14? I don't remember haha.

I started wearing a training bra in 5th grade I guess. And I, like hiding55, also had the training bra ride up when I lifted my arms. It was so annoying. I got underwired bras at the end of 5th grade though, I hated those at first. So uncomfortable and annoying. Then I got used to them and now my favorite things are bras and lingerie in general. :-p

I begged and begged for a training bra, which I totally did not need. But after I wheedled, my mom finally gave in. I still think a training bra is more or less all I need. :/

Hmmm I barely remember it. I think I was about 9 and my mom must've bought some training bras in Asia when we were there the year before in preparation for my boobs "blooming." They were just simple cotton ones that looked more like sports bras (as in, no separate cups for each boob.) I remember I was sooo embarrassed, especially when sitting in the car with the family because the seatbelt would cut between the boobs and make them more pronounced. I was cringing because I didn't want anyone to notice!

In the third grade, one girl in my grade got a training bra - so every other girl had to go home and beg for one too! I wore them sporadically but never needed them. In middle school it kind of became a necessity (changing in the locker rooms for gym, you had to have a bra on), but I didn't develop past an A cup until this past year, when I went on hormonal BC! I seriously bought my first underwire bra the summer between freshman and sophomore year of college .. and I'm still only a B. But hey .. the boyfriend loves them anyway, and more then a handful goes to waste! =]

I came home one day and my mom had left a few bras on my bed. I remember being like oh hell no because even though I was in the 6th grade I was not sporting any boobs and I wanted nothing to do with those odd contraptions. I can remember wearing them and since I had absolutely nothing to hold 'em down everytime I raised my arms they would roll up to my armpits. I hated them. I finally grew some boobs when I was 16 or so and started to like wearing bras and now I am addicted to buying them.
