Thanksgiving is almost here, and it might just be my favorite holiday. Every year my family gets together for a big party at my aunt's house. I always look forward to the classic food like turkey and mashed potatoes, but I also love the dishes specific to my family, like my mom's spicy jalapeno cranberry sauce or the creamed onions made according to my grandma's recipe. After dinner, we all head to the living room hoping to beat our food comas with a spirited game of charades.
These are the traditions that I will be looking forward to all week. What Thanksgiving traditions do you enjoy?

Wanting to pull my hair out while the fam merrily watches Fox news and Bill O'Reilly.
1The nap that follows Round 1 of chowing down...lol. Me, my husband, the cat--we all 3 pass out from tryptophan.
2SKG--maybe you could suggest that your family listen to music or something instead? Difficult to have a successful family get-together when everyone's glued to the t.v. Could work!
3My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is when all the cousins get together and watch The Princess Bride and L.A. Story, usually in the early afternoon while the food is being prepared.
4Ah yes. The nap! That's a great tradition.
5I love the James Bond marathon on Spike
but typically football is on somewhere
6Thanks, anon. Actually, Bond movie marathons are awesome!
7Seeing certain family members.
8I have a ton of food traditions that I love, like most people do with Thanksgiving, but my favorite non-food tradition is watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on tv, even though it's become a little overly commercial.
On the day before Thanksgiving, my mom and I have started to make a tradition out of going to West Side Market in Cleveland to get some great food for the meal the next day. On the day after, we've always shopped. Even though we don't buy that much, it's always fun.
92 things:
Going to my mom's and watching the Macy's parade and later gorging myself with the mother-in-law's stuffing. mmm
10The gathering of my family (or at least the kids) around the tv with our beers watching the football games and watching the parade with my parents in the morning.
11My favorite tradition is shucking oysters on the back deck. Family and friends all gather around the table where I shuck and they all tell stories and laugh together as they eat oysters as soon as I can get them onto a plate. Raw oysters are definitely a great compliment to Thanksgiving dinner, and everyone has a great time eating them and watching them get shucked.
12Our friend-centric Thanksgiving always includes a mustache-growing competition for the guys, as well as honors for best eating effort and best-all around guest.
